Not the best for a Goldsmith fan.
on September 17, 2014
The score for Best Shot is not typical of a Goldsmith soundtrack. It has a kind of eighties beat to it that is not enjoyable as just a listening activity, although cue number 6, "Town Meeting" is very good. As for whether this is the same music as the soundtrack for Hoosiers, as is presumed from the presentation, the Wikipedia article on the soundtrack says, "Until 2012, the soundtrack was primarily available under the European title Best Shot, with several of the film's cues not included on the album."
Perhaps this was Goldsmith's first time scoring a movie with electronic music. To me, the electronics are discordant with the rest of the orchestration - and repetitive. By comparison, Goldsmith's electronic scoring for the 1992 movie Basic Instinct is exciting and haunting with great variety. As a huge fan of Jerry Goldsmith, this was a bit of a disappointment. I highly recommend Hoosiers the movie.
