1.0 out of 5 stars This book contains no informatiion at all.
This book is just a series of pictures of paintings from a variety of artists, with no information on how they were created. It is also used to promote the authors' own brand of paint, which is of poor quality compared with true silk dyes.

This book showcases the work of many prominent silk painters, and 'emerging artists.' Silk painting is not a well-known medium, although those of us who practice it are shamelessly addicted! Diane Tuckman and Jan Janas are two pioneers of this art, and have inspired many silk artists. They have devoted their lives, it seems (!) to promoting silk painting as a serious fine art medium, and we are all grateful to them for their selfless determination and their efforts on our behalf.
This is not a 'how-to' book; for that, you would need to refer to their other publications, Creative Silk Painting, and The Complete Book of Silk Painting.

5.0 out of 5 stars About the book, July 29, 2006
This review is from: The Best of Silk Painting (Hardcover)
I am writing this in response to a reviewer who wrote the book was made to promote the authors "paints." Since I am one of the featured artists in the book I can say this is totally untrue. We were all asked to give information on what type of dyes or paints we used. If the author of the post actually read the book she would have noticed each artist had their own favorites. I have been painting on silk for twenty years. I also teach silk painting and I use some of the best silk dyes made. The purpose of the book is to show you what can be done and achieved on silk and what we each personally use. We were NOT promoting any products. If you want a step by step instructional book, I suggest you look into another book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amusing silk painting book, June 12, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: The Best of Silk Painting (Hardcover)
Different artists show theirs own styles producing a kaleidoscope of creativity. Some of the works are very difficult to perform like a portrait of Frida Kaloh . A broad spectrum of techniques and a wide variety of designs were displayed with imagination in this collection of fine art pieces.

Janas and Tuckman's best work yet! The heart and soul of silk painting shine through beautifully in this wonderful pictoral display of wall hangings, wearable art, and yardage. This book is not only a great tabletop accessory, but it is also an inspiration to the true artist in all of us.
