5.0 out of 5 stars Love this book!
Bought this book for myself and plan on buying one for my daughter and future daughter-in-law. This book has lots of projects from aprons, purses, bags, curtains, quilting to clothing. It gives lots of ideas for embellishments. It gives the reader the "permission" to experiment to make sewn items expressions of themselves. It does have bag patterns to copy. It does...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good collection of projects if you don't have the magazine, November 24, 2009
This review is from: The Best of Sew Simple Magazine (Leisure Arts #4826): A Collection of Quick Projects (Paperback)
I don't know about you, but I often pick up Sew Simple on the newsstand. It either has a project I want to try or something that I think would be good for my nieces who are relatively new to sewing and quilting. This book includes projects ranging from totes to quilts to home dec with a few fun things included. I think the fabric drink umbrellas will be perfect for next summer's barbeque, the funky pillowcase will be great for several on my holiday gift list, and the java jacket is bound to find its way into a stocking or two. If you're looking for some quick and fun projects, this is a good source. And, a bonus for those new to sewing is the supplies and techniques section.

2.0 out of 5 stars A rehash of old projects..., November 1, 2009

...to make up for the fact that a new issue of the magazine hasn't come out since last year? The old editor left, and the new editor only released one issue, which I did not think was as good. Now this "greatest hits" comes out, with a cover design that matches the old style! I hope this means the magazine will come back in it's old form. I really loved it! However, if you don't have all the back issues, this is a great way to catch up.

2.0 out of 5 stars Barely Any Patterns, February 10, 2010
This review is from: The Best of Sew Simple Magazine (Leisure Arts #4826): A Collection of Quick Projects (Paperback)
I'm a beginner to intermediate sewer and I don't recieve the magazine that published this book, so I thought I would give it a whirl. It was a disapointment.

Pro's:
1.Lots of projects to try.
2.Some extra sewing tips in the back of the book to help the beginner.

Con's:
1.It only suggests patterns you should use for most of the projects in the book. Very few actually have their own patterns in the book.
2.There are barely any directions for each project.
3.This book is definitly geared to the beginner sewer.
4.All of these projects you can find online for free if you do a little searching.

It does not have the garment patterns included, but they are basic patterns like pajama pants, skirts, etc. which can be purchased at any fabric store. Over 50 pages are devoted to techniques or basic sewing instructions which is 25% of the book. This is an excellent book for beginners, as well as, more experienced sewers as a reference book. It has lots of quick and useful projects. I am not comparing this book to the magazine. I have rated it on it's own merits! I, also, enjoyed the magazine immensely and never missed a copy. This is one book I will keep in my sewing room where I can access it easily.

This book gave me some really good ideas. There are a few basic items that I wasn't confident on creating with out instructions and this was perfect! I can't wait to try a few more things.

An excellent book whether you are a beginner or an accomplished seamstress. There are projects for all. I have been sewing for over 35 years and I love this book. My granddaughter, who has only been sewing for a few years, will be trying a few items in the book. I can highly recommend this book.
