The dried beans were simply cooked in the slow cooker for 10 hours.

A second beef stew filled with onions and no veggies and the Normandy chicken with apples were especially inedible.

Although this book has some great recipies, I found that many of them took only 3-5 hours of cooking. The whole reason I use a slow cooker is to put everything into the pot before I leave for work and have it ready when I get back, at least 8 hours later. If the cooking time is 3 hours, the recipe is of no use to me.

If your idea of a great crockpot cookbook is one which allows you to throw in a few fresh ingredients and come home to a savoury aroma and a great meal - then this book is not for you. It has more pre-packaged, processed, canned and preserved ingredients than I have ever seen in a cookbook. Also, many of the meals take a few hours on low - no good if you need to have things cooking while you're at the office. This book was one huge disappointment.

This book was a major disappointment. Among the 9 or so main dishes my wife and I have tried in this book, there was only one we really liked. Particularly aromatically putrid was the Normandy Chicken with Apples recipe, whose aroma was so nasty that when I came home from work and smelled it, I left again. The Beef Stew was like eating beef in water with red food coloring. My wife and I are avid cookbook users. We follow recipes faithfully, and usually we're pleased with the results. That was not the case here. I note that we did not try any of the recipies for appetizers and snacks, the soups and chowders, or the desserts. Perhaps this book redeems itself in those areas. As for the main dishes, try them at your own risk.

I bought this book based on the reviews I read here online. The complaints seemed limited to the type of food, & I thought the recipes looked intriguing, so I bought it. I even went out and purchased a timer so I could make the 4 hour dishes. What a mistake! We have made at least 10 different recipes, followed them to the letter, and except for the oriental beef stew, they ALL taste nasty. A second beef stew filled with onions and no veggies and the Normandy chicken with apples were especially inedible. This book was an incredible disappointment. I would recommend anyone, especially if you have kids, to steer away from this book (your kids will NOT eat this stuff!).

Book is not really geared to the every-day houswife. Good basic everday dishes just aren't there. The desserts and beverages I will make in the slow cooker are far and few between. Personally I need meat mainstay menus.

Of the many crockpot books I've used, I liked this one the best. I'm a vegetarian and have had a hard time finding crockpot recipes that didn't focus on meat. This book had an excellent vegetarian section and soup section. The spiral binding of the book makes it particularly easy to prop up and use.

A must for crock pot lovers or those who want to try out a new method of cooking! I love one-pot-meals & I love this cookbook! I have lots of cookbooks but use only 2 of them on a regular basis...one of them is an out of print "One Pot Meals" cookbook I picked up at a used bookstore and the other is this book! Easy and tasty recipes that are great for a busy lifestyle. Even the desserts turn out great and are easy to do!

I bought this book with some trepidation due to previous reviews. However, I was quite pleased with the simplicity, ease of use and turn-out of meals from this book. It is not a "gourmet" selection, does not offer to be one, and does exactly what the title purports. It offers quick, easy to prepare, tasty (and healthier)alternatives to the fast food gutbusters and fried offerings for those early to work, late home modern family days. It is a wonderful little book, suits it's purpose well and needs to be considered on that level. Great buy.
