5.0 out of 5 stars Fire
Fire! That's all I can say. It's that hot. I mean you got all the classic performances from 2pac, Biggie, Wu-Tang, Snoop, Cash Money, everybody on this.

Not all the artists listed on the cover perfom. It is from the years 1995-1999

1. They should show less Benzino. This guy is using the source to boost his rap career (if it ever existed)

2. Not all performances of the artists listed on the cover shown. Instead we are shown 5 second snippets from their performances with different music in the background . Eve; Master P; Outkast; Lil' Kim Puff Daddy & Nas Lauryn Hill.

3. The Performances are great . The Highlights being the

Death Row inmates perfoming hits mostly from the Murder Was The Case CD era : Dr Dre - Keep Their Heads Ringing; Nate Dogg; Dogg Pound; Sam Sneed; Rage - Afro Puffs ; DJ Quick & then finally Snoop Dogg - murder was the case remix; this is just b4 Tupac joined the label.

Bad Boy performances with Craig Mack ;Faith; Total; Puffy ; Junior Mafia with Lil' Kim and finally the Notorious BIG.

Tupac - Out On Bail

Snoop Dogg again with Xzibit & Nate Dogg - B* Please

Wu-Tang - Cream

Method Man & Wu-Tang - Bring The Pain

DMX - a mix of his ealier hits including Ruff Ryders anthem

The Cash Money Millionaires going through some of their hits

Busta Rhymes

There are also those controversial moments by Suge Knight & Snoop Dogg and A look at hip hop fashion at the awards ceremonies

Overall a good DVD because of the live performances but you'll feel short changed because of the perfomances shown only as 5 second snippets and irritated by Benzino

This DVD pack has a second DVD featuring Artist from the Source's Unsigned Hyped column. The alumni include Eminem; BIG & DMX. Then there is a feature on unknown artists from the column and a Battle contest

3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad but I wouldn't call it a hiphop history, April 19, 2006

This review is from: The Best of the Source Awards, Vol. 1: Hip-Hop History (DVD)
I bought the English version of this DVD a few months back and while it has some highlights, the DVD wasn't exactly all that it claimed to be. Mostly a collection of performances from 94-99, with the interludes presented by Benzino, it also has clips of the infamous acceptance speeches by Suge knight & Snoop Dogg at the height of the East-West beef in 95. The best performances are undoubtedly by The Death Row inmates, including Tha Dogg Pound, Snoop, Dre, DJ Quik and a rare performance from Sam Sneed which was good. Also good sets from The Bad Boy camp, Tupac, Busta Rhymes, Bone Thugs, Wu-Tang and some not so good performances from the likes of the Cash money Millionaires. The title is a bit misleading as there is little hiphop history to be found here, and be warned not every name listed on the cover is shown here, some are represented only by 5 second clips.

Despite its flaws this is still worth picking up for a few great performances, if you can find it cheap you could do worse.

The dvd was okay but I was expecting to see more performances on the dvd. The performances that were showed on the commercial didn't make it to the dvd.
