The previous reviewer seems concerned that this isn't the "Best of the 70's"- but in fact it contains all of Steve's commercial successes with a selection of tracks from later years (up to the 90s).
How this man is not recognized as one of the all time greats defeats me. This is an outstanding introduction to Steve- and a primer which will can provide a platform to dicover his other work- a GREAT introduction to the man and his music

It's called the best of the 70s, but it isn't. Instead, they also include tracks from the 80s and 90s. Buy one of their 70s albums instead. The music is still good, but not in this format.

This compilation exceeds the 1970s in scope and provides an impressive showcase of Steve Harley and Cockney Rebel's contribution to rock. Harley's attractive blend of art rock was influenced by glam rockers like Bowie and Roxy Music, but his style remained accessible and distinctive.

The album includes their biggest hits like (Come Up And See Me) Make Me Smile, Judy Teen with its reggae rhythm and their version of Here Comes The Sun. Other great songs are Psychomodo, That's My Life In Your Hands with its catchy melody, the dark moody Sebastian and the ballad Rain In Venice with its lovely piano and keyboards.

The album is however incomplete in that it omits some famous tracks like Freedom's Prisoner, Tumbling Down, Love's A Prima Donna and Harley's 1983 hit, Ballerina (Prima Donna). Most of these may be found on the album The The Cream of Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel, another worthwhile compilation. Cockney Rebel and Harley maintained a remarkably consistent style and this music has aged well.
