4.0 out of 5 stars under-rated hippy band
this is very good over-looked hippy music - the 1st track is the full length version & the 2nd tune (i had never heard of anything other than "green-eyed lady") was such a pleasant surprise - they were a pretty tight band
but
i suggest you buy the disc which complies their 1st and 2nd albums onto one disc ("sugarloaf" and "spaceship earth") - you'll find more...

3.0 out of 5 stars Best of Sugarloaf
The best of Sugarloaf would be the double CD "Sugarloaf/Spaceship Earth." This collection seems to favor their post-Liberty work, which was not as good to me. They seemed to be more pop-oriented, less rock. The best cuts are, of course, "Green-Eyed Lady," the long version (the single version was 3:33, by the way), and "Tongue In Cheek," a...

They seemed to be more pop-oriented, less rock. The best cuts are, of course, "Green-Eyed Lady," the long version (the single version was 3:33, by the way), and "Tongue In Cheek," a fantastic guitar tour-de-force (long version)with great lightning-speed organ solo. Too bad lead vocalist Jerry Corbetta went on to sing in a latter-day version of the Four Seasons.

but
i suggest you buy the disc which complies their 1st and 2nd albums onto one disc ("sugarloaf" and "spaceship earth") - you'll find more hidden gems there (*and* the full length version of "green-eyed lady") that disc has 16 tracks and at *least* 9 really great songs - try it..
peace out - space puppy

5.0 out of 5 stars This Album Really Takes Me Back To Another Era!, May 11, 2007
This review is from: Best Of Sugarloaf (Audio CD)
All of the work on this album is worthwhile; but, the most notable number is "Green-Eyed Lady", which is track #1. The band's instrumentals on this particular song are incredible and, may I venture to say, unmatched! The music really has the ability to take the listener back to the early '70s, a special time in pop music.

Yes indeed Kevin, the 6:50 "Green-Eyed Lady" is found here, although the hit version was pretty long in itself for a pop single, something like 5 1/2 minutes as I recall. Anyone who likes that song knows this band's sound & will like this. Early-to-mid'70s organ-dominated proggy stuff, less metallic than Deep Purple and Uriah Heep, less wanky than Yes or ELP. And don't forget their 2nd & last hit, the great "Don't Call Us, We'll Call You" complete with CBS's phone number spelled out touch-tone style!

5.0 out of 5 stars Green-Eyed Lady, October 8, 2000
By A Customer

Sugar Loaf's anthem, "Green-Eyed Lady". You'll hear it occasionally in the chopped up format. Obviously cheats the song of its intended power. It resides in the same field as "Hold Your Head Up", by Argent. Great tunes in long play version.

I only bought this CD because I heard Green-Eyed Lady on the radio and remembered it from high school. This CD is awesome! Great musicianship, fantastic keyboard/organ player and quite a few jazz and classical inspired solos. Too bad this band broke up after only two years.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspired and fertile moods!, December 25, 2004
This review is from: Best Of Sugarloaf (Audio CD)
This Denver rock quartet , Sugarloaf broke the walls with his emblematic theme Green eyed lady in August 1972 . His leader Jerry Corbeta infused an original sound combining the guitars and the organ in a special blend .
Tongue in cheek was another hit .
But you will be amazed when you listen that interesting fusion with the piece Bach doors /Chest fever which works out such as a musical bridge between the well known organ work Toccata and Fugue in D Minor and impressive variations to chest fever .
Perhaps the band lacked of creative breath or in the best of the cases could not survive to the Disco Music invasion .
This was a difficult decision for many bands . Guess Who , Credence and other easy watching ensembles preferred to abandon the ship instead of keeping against wind and tide as Chicago or the Bee Gees could make it; though that step signified a turn financially clever but musically weakened them .
It was the question between surviving or disappear.
Nevertheless this band is a must have for you in case you want to know the different options chosen for one of the most interesting bands who cultivated the rock with interesting turns to jazz sounds .

2.0 out of 5 stars Long version of Green-Eyed lady needs to be available as download!, February 9, 2011
This review is from: Best Of Sugarloaf (Audio CD)
If there was ever a song that needed to be available as an mp3 download, it's the long (6:50) version of "Green-Eyed Lady." Unfortunately all you can get in that form is the single edit which comprises little more than half the song.

So the only way you can get the full version right now is to look for either this CD or the one that combines Sugarloaf's first two albums (or most of them, anyway).

Whether any of the other material on either of those discs is of interest to you is something you'll have to judge for yourself. I happened to get the "Best Of" CD and found that the other songs were not up to the standards of "Green-Eyed Lady." In fact, most of them were not even anything I cared to hear again.
