4.0 out of 5 stars SWV - the Glory Years.
It's difficult to remember the glory years of SWV, a sassier, more street-savvy version of En Vogue. While Destiny's Child traded in their soul for radio-friendly Black pop, SWV never strayed from their r&b/hip hop roots. Their singing, annoying for some, drew no complaints from me. On their hits collection (which, apparently, replaces an earlier compilation that...

3.0 out of 5 stars Incomplete Collection
This collection of songs from SWV's 3 (yes ONLY 3!!) CDs is a great bargain. You get most of the hits by the group, and the liner notes are very informative. The sound quality is top notch, and this CD is a better buy than the previous & lackluster 'SWV Greatest Hits' CD.I won't list all of the hits on this CD (they're already listed above by Amazon!!), but the omission of...

On their hits collection (which, apparently, replaces an earlier compilation that had fewer tracks), we get all the singles from their albums including lesser known songs. Who could forget the straight-to-the-arrow ballad "Weak" or the funked-up "Right Here," which smartly sampled Michael Jackson's "Human Nature"? I also dug "I'm So Into You" and the downright catchy "You're the One." Personally, I'm disappointed that they didn't include the 1997 jam "Can We" (featuring Missy Elliot), but that's hardly reason enough to shun this disc. Though SWV weren't the best all-girl group around, they made a respectable imprint in 1990s r&b, and this retrospective is worth a listen.

4.0 out of 5 stars More Complete Than Previous Collection, March 31, 2002

This is the second compilation in as many years focusing on the music of the once-popular girl group, who, though quite successful, always managed, even at their peak, to fall under the shadow of fellow R&B queens En Vogue. This package is slightly more complete than the previous, though it too manages to omit 'Can We', arguably one of the group's shining moments. Conversely, it includes some of the trio's minor hits, chief among them the sparkling and highly underrated 'It's All About U', from the group's uneven sophomore effort. Also noteworthy are the extensive liner notes, reduced to a meager paragraph on the GREATEST HITS cd, but here lengthy and quite informative.Of the two collections, this remains overall more complete.

4.0 out of 5 stars Musicale at its Finest!!! Please Come Back!!, December 18, 2003
This review is from: Best of (Audio CD)
This compilation is simply the best greatest hits album I have ever listened to. Not one of the songs possessed SWV's creative input. No matter. This group had some of the best composers and producers ever. With songs like the Neptunes' "Use Your Heart," (yeah, N.E.R.D has longevity) BAM's "Weak," You're Always On My Mind," "I'm So Into You," "Rain," ALLSTAR's "You're The One," Kevin Perez's "When U Cry," etc., you're literally getting the best production and songwriting of SWV's brief but effective career. This wonderful album takes you on an exciting journey of etherealism. The ballads, the new-jack swing tunes, the club joints, every song is a hit to me!! Coko, LeeLee, & Taj's exceptional chemistry and performance skills made SWV one of the most versatile and groundbreaking acts of all-time. Stay tuned for the reunion!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great singing group splits.....but a good CD anyway, December 1, 2003

OK, I gotta say that unfortunately "Can We" didn't make the cut. I dunno why, but regardless of that SWV had a lot of memorable hits. One that is a classic is the Riley-produced "Human Nature" remix. Now that's now a remix should be and, better yet, how sampling should be. Sorry Puffy, but you didn't invent the remix!

Even though this wonderfully gifted trio spanned only 5 years, their many hits speak for themselves. This CD you can play all the way through and keep on "REPEAT".

There aren't that many groups out today in R+B. Sisters with Voices was among the best of them, and proved their success.

5.0 out of 5 stars A "Somewhat" Underrated Female R&B Group of The 90's, July 18, 2005
By

SWV...I really don't know where to start! Such a great group, I just think they don't get as much recognition as they should, but neither do some other acts from the 90's scene. I think SWV also has one of the best female singers from that decade (Coko), it's sort of sad how you see artist now like Beyoncé, Ciara, Rihanna, and so on get all this credit for what they do, but it's not half as impressive as the vocal range Coko offers. But to remember the good moments in music I bought this "best of" cd to keep my memories of real music! Honestly, when I first bought this disc I just bought it to here the main songs I knew but then one day I decided to listen to the whole album and I was amazed with how good of a catalogue SWV has. If there was one song I didn't really like I would have to say probably "It's All About You," I didn't have to skip any song besides that one, but it's still an alright song. I advise anyone who's not familiar with SWV, and would like to try their music to buy this album, because you basically get what the title says. The only thing that I thought they should've done is put the song "Can We" on this "best of" CD, but they have a different hits CD that offers it. Besides that everything about this album is great! So if you don't want to sit and hear these factory-made artists try to sing, you should buy the "Best of SWV" or try out some mid 90's R&B.

*Remember this is just my opinion!*

5.0 out of 5 stars We miss you SWV, November 7, 2001
This review is from: Best of (Audio CD)
The queens are back with a album packed full of hits. For all the hardcore fans who miss these soulful sistas, you get a chance to revisit them. You can definetly see how much SWV has influenced hip-hop soul and girl groups of today. They led the way to Destiny's Child, Blaque, 3LW, and 702. They also inspired groups that are gone like Xscape, Brownstone, and Zhane. But what is going to set SWV apart from the old groups like Xscape and new groups like Destiny's Child, is the timeless feel of their music. Rather it is 2001 or 1992, SWV's sound is bumpin....Then...Now...and in the future. This album is proof.
We miss you SWV, but at least we got the hits to comfort us!

This collection of songs from SWV's 3 (yes ONLY 3!!) CDs is a great bargain. You get most of the hits by the group, and the liner notes are very informative. The sound quality is top notch, and this CD is a better buy than the previous & lackluster 'SWV Greatest Hits' CD.I won't list all of the hits on this CD (they're already listed above by Amazon!!), but the omission of the MASSIVE HIT, 'Can We ?' cost this compilation 2 stars!! 'Can We' had prduction by Missy Elliott, and appeared on the 'Booty Call' soundtrack. There is room on the CD for the track, so what's the deal ?? Anyway, SWV didn't have the best voices & harmonies (EnVogue, Jade, Xscape, and even Ex-Girlfriend could blow them away!), but they did have a handful of hits, which were pretty essential for thier time. Nice CD, but without 'Can We ?', it's incomplete, BIG TIME! Peace, S.D.(fr.'Chaka's World')

No doubt this is 1 of the best greatest hits collection that u will ever listen to in u're life because simply there are no substitutes for early 90's r&b musik and second of all, all the songs r good in here except for #9, which featured puffy. Personal favorites r: weak, u're alwayz on my mind, downtown, rain, and right here. Da whole album is total satisfaction trust me, it's worth every penny. From a early 90's r&b fan signing off!
