Couldn't handle stardom,
By
This review is from: Best of T. Graham Brown (Audio CD)
When T started his career with a string of top ten country hits, he seemed set to become a major star for many years to come and he certainly had the ability but it appears that he couldn't cope and developed an alcohol problem. So after eleven top ten hits, his career was effectively over. T's voice has some similarities with Kenny Rogers and Lee Greenwood though you wouldn't mistake him for either. His music is a mix of blues, rock and country but the country element is strong.
This compilation features the first nine of those hits plus a cover of Power of love (the same song that Charley Pride took up the country charts, not one of the famous pop songs). T began with two top ten country hits (I tell it like it used to be, I wish that I could hurt that way again) then had two number ones (Hell and high water, Don't go to strangers), three more top ten hits (Brilliant conversationalist, She couldn't love me anymore, The last resort) and two further number ones (Darlene, Come as were). All those hits are included here. His last two top ten his (If you could see me now, Don't go out) are missing. Don't go out, a duet with Tanya Tucker, is available on several of Tanya's compilations. If you enjoy the music of Kenny Rogers, there's a good chance that you will enjoy the music of T Graham Brown, once thought destined for superstardom but now almost forgotten.

Although I very much enjoy each of the CDs of T. Graham Brown, this one is my favorite. It just speaks to me in a special way. I keep it in my car a great deal of the time and he sings to me as I go about my errands. Certainly makes driving more pleasant. This was actually my first T.G.B. CD and came about after I heard him singing "Hell And High Water" on a satellite program. I thought it was great and decided to check it out on Amazon. I was excited to find it and have since purchased "The Present" and "You Can't Take It With You". I teach line dancing so you can bet I will be using each of the CDs when selecting songs for my classes.
I highly recommmend you check this one out. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Untill I watched Country Family Reunion on the TV channel Horse&Country I had not previously heard of T Graham Brown. He sang on the show and I was most impressed even though he is now past his prime. This prompted me to look for his best of album on Amazon, and I haven't been disappointed. Country music with a difference but none the worse for it. Some reviewers call it country soul, and I think that sums it up well.
