If you're just learning tango and wish to practice on your own, this is a wise investment. You won't have to disrupt your practice running back and forth to your cd player to select tracks. You won't drive yourself nuts listening to the same song stuck on loop play. Basically, this is a good cd of classical, non-elevator tango music that does not beat you over the head with a nausiating DUM DUM DUM DUM beat. (Well, most of the songs do not.)
There are a few lousy tracks within this collection, but it has been my experience that with all cds there will always be tracks you tend to skip over. Do not let the $14.99 price tag for a two disk set turn you off. This is good music.

It's not the Best Tango Album in the World Ever! But it's pretty darn good. This is NOT an album where all the songs sound the same; there is a remarkable variety in the song selection. You'll hear everything from vocals, like Gardel's Volver, to Fuga Y Misterio performed by The 12 Cellists of the BPO, a strange but enchantingly beautiful selection. I highly recommend this album, but there are two reasons you might not want to buy it. First, if you already own "Buenos Aires by Night" (EMI Odeon) you'll find that eleven of the songs appear on both albums, so look for an album without so much overlap. Second, if you are looking for tango dance music, you'll find that the tempo on many of the songs is not even enough to use for International Ballroom Tango or American Social Tango. A talented tanguero could pull off Argentine tango to several of the selections, however. For dancing the tango, I would recommend
Bailemos Tango!: A Century of Tango on the Dance Floor (Rhino) by various artists or La Melodia De Nuestro Adios (El Bandoneon) by Francisco Canaro, both of which are traditional tango music. For more contemporary, club style tangos, try Lecons de Tango (Milan Music/WEA Corporation) by various artists. It contains a lot of upbeat, even tempoed "electronic mixes" so you'll either love it or hate it.

Mostly Pleased,

I received the 2 cd album and was very happy with the artists and their work. However, one of the songs in one of the cd's had a glitch, so I couldn't listen to it. I sent it back to Amazon and they immediately sent me a replacement. However, that had a glitch on the very same song. This seems to be a problem with the master. I then let Amazon know about this, but I decided not to send the cd album back. Since it was going on my MP3, I simply cut it out. I also sent a letter to the music company explaining the problem, but have never gotten a reply. I am completely happy with Amazon's policy in this matter.

A bit more contemporary than what we usually dance to. More like what you would expect to hear with that great tango in a great movie.

The Best Tango Album,
This review is from: Best Tango Album in the World Ever (Audio CD)
This is the best Tango Album - it has breadth and depth. It has a broad spectrum of old and new tangos. For an experienced tango aficionado, some of the tangos are a bit sedate. For a new tango aficionado, this album will help to show some of the broad and delightful spectrums that tango presents.

Lives up to its name; reminiscent of a show seen while briefly in Buenos Aires.

I didn't like some of the tracks, because the bordered upon the sedate. I like a strong beat that inspires me to dance, and this set largely delivers. If you are looking for your first tango CD, this one will not disappoint.
