5.0 out of 5 stars It's a good way to expose yourself to some new and different bands
The Good
I guess the most enticing thing about this collection is that you get 30+ tracks of music for a reasonable price. The list of bands aren't exactly a who's who of rock heavyweights, but it does pack a punch of underground, up-and-coming, and cult acts from around the world. I must admit that I was only familiar with six of the bands going into this album. I...

2.0 out of 5 stars Wow, this is really good!
And I support PETA. In all seriousness, this is just a bunch of structurally imcompetent metalcore tripe. If you like Killswitch Engage and Demon Hunter, you'll love this compilation. If you know what good music is, you won't. That simple.

I gave this two stars because of one good song: "The Final" by Dir En Grey, which happens to be one of Diru's softest...

The Good
I guess the most enticing thing about this collection is that you get 30+ tracks of music for a reasonable price. The list of bands aren't exactly a who's who of rock heavyweights, but it does pack a punch of underground, up-and-coming, and cult acts from around the world. I must admit that I was only familiar with six of the bands going into this album. I soon discovered that I had been missing out on some great bands; Avenged Sevenfold, My American Heart, Armor for Sleep, Dark New Day (I think this track is on my Raw vs. Smackdown 2006 game), Dillinger Escape Plan, Bleeding Through, Funeral for a Friend ( a band I previously hated), and Opiate for the Masses.

I not saying those are the only good ones, but they are the one's that stood out for me. There is so much great and diverse music on this collection. It doesn't matter if you like hardcore, metal, pop-punk, alternative, or metalcore, this collection has it all. You're not getting the band's b-sides or crap either. You're getting their current singles or top-notch unreleased tracks.

The Bad
There are a few duds in the pack, but they don't detract that much from the album as a whole.

The Verdict
The Best of Taste of Chaos CD isn't just a way for you to prepare for the ongoing tour, but it's also a good way to expose yourself to some new and different bands. After taking this huge collection of tracks in, I'm definitely going to head out and grab a few of the band's current albums.

I gave this two stars because of one good song: "The Final" by Dir En Grey, which happens to be one of Diru's softest songs. (On "Taste of Chaos?...")
- Thus says the Pellington (And remember, just say "NO" to metalcore!)

1.0 out of 5 stars My heart weeps whenI see this CD, April 18, 2006
This review is from: Best of Taste of Chaos (Audio CD)
I am so sad I could write a song for "The Used" right now, whinny lyrics and the like. First off let me say there are some good songs on this CD, they are catchy, nothing really special, just your emo/metalcore/hardcore whatever the kids with chopped up black hair with bleach blonde streaks, squeezing into their sister's pants are calling it now. I mean the music is simple and has quasi dark lyrics and all that stuff MTV is devouring now. But there IS a GREAT band on here! I saw Dir en Grey live in LA and wow! I've been a fan for over two years now and they have incredible range, interesting time signatures, and the energy many bands on here can never come close to. So why am I all sad? Because I don't want this amazing band to fall into this mediocre music movement, the last thing I want to see is my Dir en Grey concert t-sirt on sale for $13.99 at Hot topic (I have written tomes of my hatred for that store). Seriously if you do like this kind of music I suggest taking a critical listen to it. You'll see the super distorted 5-7-7 power cord is rampant, and the vocalist is either whining or screaming. Try to listen to something like Dir en grey, Merry, MUCC (pronounced Mukku), (shameless plug for Japanese bands) or maybe some good grunge will suit your taste, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Alice in chains. Or maybe some ass-kickin' bands like Helmet are better for you. But please just don't hate me because I don't want to fall into that general emo-hater crowd that tells you to shut up and stop crying and the like I'm just a concerned Dir en Grey fan.
