4.0 out of 5 stars one of the classic compilations
I just got a call recently from an old school raver buddy and DJ trying to remember 'that CD from back in the day..with "that bass song"'...turns out its Bass Explosion... I dug my copy out and gave it a spin and its still a kick ass CD. I thought this disc was going to get worn out back in the day it was played so much. Of all the discs in the series I think this one was...

3.0 out of 5 stars Hit and Miss Dance Classix
You should get this cd for "Trip II the Moon" and "Close Your Eyes" because they are amazing trax and are very hard to find. I remember the first time i heard "close your eyes." they are 2 classic gems from the early 90s by Acen. Other highlights include the infamous "sesame street techno song"--"Sesame's Treet" and...

4.0 out of 5 stars one of the classic compilations, June 15, 2010

I just got a call recently from an old school raver buddy and DJ trying to remember 'that CD from back in the day..with "that bass song"'...turns out its Bass Explosion... I dug my copy out and gave it a spin and its still a kick ass CD. I thought this disc was going to get worn out back in the day it was played so much. Of all the discs in the series I think this one was the best by far. Some really GOOD music on the CD. Old school break beats using sounds that are still relavent in 2010. I'm so high.....Bass Explosion go waaaay back into my head!

If you do not know this disc....

...............At first glance this is another cheesy compilation of weak generic "techno" music...BUT... I assure you...it's a top notch CD worth owning if you are into electronica!

5.0 out of 5 stars Unbelievable!, April 27, 2007
This review is from: Best of Techno 3 (Audio CD)
I been DJing for 13 years. I have over 35,000 records. Hard to believe but this CD is THE BEST compilation EVER released for old school style breakbeat "techno" (i hate that word). Every track on here is fire (except for the Smart E's)! I still rock this CD to get me amped almost 15 years after I first got it. All the tracks on here were rocked at all the early-mid 90s "raves" (i hate that word). If you're a DJ who uses Serato this CD is a must-have. I'd pay several hundred dollars to get all these classic joints on vinyl. Buy it. Rrr-Rrr-Rrr-Rrr-Roll the beats...

I have to agree with most of the other folks here, this is a fantastic disc... and I also have to agree that the primary reason are the Acen tracks. Out of all of the different mixes that came out, these versions of "Trip II the Moon" and "Close Your Eyes" are still my favorites (and they are hard to find anywhere else), and they still kick SIK! and make me wanna jump up! which is pretty hard to do since I'm a jaded old-timer now. :)

I bought this five disc box-set ("Best of Techno") back in the day, but Volume 3 (this one) is my favorite one. Each disc was put out by Profile between 1991 and 1994 and many of the tracks are prerelease or rarer mixes, so it's a great collection.

But beyond the Acen tracks there are several great tracks here. The N.R.G. track, "I Need Your Love" has the famous Korgis sample from their 1979 pop track "Everybody's Gotta Learn Sometime". "I'm So High" by Eden Transmission takes me right back to wondering if that whispering voice was in MY head. :) Yes, there's that semi-famous Sesame's Treet song... but that one's a bit too "candy-raver" for me. But hey, an early Joey Beltram track, what more do you want? This disc is worth the money. Man, this disc is worth the money just for the two Acen tracks, seriously.

This compilation truly represents a high-water-mark from the dawn of breakbeat techno and many (if not most) of the tracks will still impress people today. If you're a breakbeat fan, buy it used (since I think they are out of print)... and it'll be the best $5 you'll spend on music this year, or any year.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a MUST HAVE compilation., May 16, 2002
This review is from: Best of Techno 3 (Audio CD)
This cd has an excellent variety of "early" rave and techno classics... including the infamous "Trip II the Moon" and "Close Your Eyes" (both by Acen.) These two tracks are worth the entire recording alone (and are rare as noted earlier.) They (esp. Trip II the Moon) were ahead of their time, and friends have a hard time believing they were made in 1993. The sounds presented on this compilation (for the most part) were cutting edge (and still are as they are very unique and have set the standard the even current techno tries to adhere to.) There are many lush styles that did not become "main stream" (in the Techno scene) until much later... i.e. breakbeat. There are even styles that have yet to be emulated, therefore making this CD sound just as modern (perhaps even more so) than most techno (and sub genres) of today, making this a very unique compilation. BUY THIS NOW!!!!
