5.0 out of 5 stars Great for the casual Blondie Fan
I have always liked various songs by Blondie but have never owned anything by them. This is a great ... compilation of their radio hits for the casual fan. I didn't hear anything wrong with the sound quality as stated by the last reviewer. It sounded like a good quality recording.

2.0 out of 5 stars Selection of songs ok but the sound is terrible, June 25, 1999

This review is from: Best Of: Ten Best Series (Audio CD)
When I first heard about this cd I thought great. I could have all of Blondie's best songs on one cd. I have the other "The Best of Blondie" cd released in 1981 but I didn't like the mix they did for "Heart of Glass" so I had to find another cd that contained the original mix for the song. I finally found it on an cd called "Once More into the Bleach" It's one of those dance mix albums. It contains the long disco version of "Heart of Glass." The rest of the cd is terrible though. All the other songs are these stupid dance mixes that sound nothing like the original song. So now I had two Blondie cds, one that had most of the Blondie songs I liked and the other that just had one song I liked, namely "Heart of Glass." I thought when I bought the "Ten Best of Blondie" that I would have the best of both worlds. Boy was I wrong. The songs themselves are ok but the sound is terrible. The first song "Call me" sounded ok but when "One Way or Another" started playing I thought someone had turned down the bass on my stereo and turned up the treble. The drums sounded like someone was beating on tissue paper. The worst one was "Heart of Glass." First off, they cut off the intro to the song. Second, on the last verse after she sings the ooh ooh whoa part instead of playing the verse that goes "Once I had a love and it was a gas, soon turned out to be a pain in the ass," they played the first two lines from a previous verse and then played the last two lines of the "pain in the ass" verse. Whoever tried to combine the parts of these two verse into one did a terrible job. The change in the sound of the music was so obvious. If you want to buy a Blondie album I suggest you either try "Parallel Lines", "The Best of Blondie" (1981 version), or another cd I found called "Blonde and Beyond" but stay away from the "Ten Best of Blondie."

2.0 out of 5 stars Far from "Best", January 31, 2005
This review is from: Best Of: Ten Best Series (Audio CD)
"Best of Blondie" is a rather deceptive title -- it would be better to call it "Blondie's Top Ten Hits." You get what you pay for in this budget CD, which contains some of Blondie's best songs, but also omits any songs from their first album, and neglect other notable songs.

"Best of" contains several songs from the classic Blondie albums, not including the recent reunion albums. Included are songs from "Autoamerican" ("Rapture," "The Tide is High") "Parallel Lines" ("Heart of Glass," "One Way Or Another"), "The Hunter" ("Island of Lost Souls"), "Plastic Letters ("Denis"), and "Eat To The Beat" ("Atomic," "Dreaming").

The biggest problem with "Best of" is obvious -- it only contains some of Blondie's hits. Admittedly there's going to be overcrowded selections if there are six albums and only ten selected hits, but "Best of" fails to give a full picture of Blondie's top tunes.

For example, their self-titled debut album is completely ignored, despite songs like "X Offender" and "Rip Her To Shreds." "The Hunter" and "Plastic Letters" have only one song each -- okay, neither is Blondie's most popular, yet each has songs that are worthy of inclusion.

What redeems the "Best of" album at all is that it's a good introduction to the works of Blondie. Deborah Harry's solid vocals sound good whether in punk or new wave (or some mix of the two), and the other members of Blondie provide a colorful, nimble musical backdrop for her voice. Unfortunately, it also suffers from poor audio quality.

"Best Of Blondie" will be a disappointment to fans, or to people looking for an overall glance at Blondie's work. As an introduction, it's a pretty good choice.

1.0 out of 5 stars Pathetic collection, July 22, 2007
This review is from: Best Of: Ten Best Series (Audio CD)
This must be the worst and the most incomplete of all the Blondie compilations. I do not recommend it. There are far better ones available in the form of The Complete Picture: Very Best of Blondie, The Platinum Collection and Greatest Hits.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy this Blondie CD, February 26, 2002

I was contemplating buying this one versus "The Best of Blondie." which was released in 1981. I assumed this one being released in 1999 was better quality, but boy was I wrong. The audio quality is horrible. I love Blondie but this is not the right CD to buy. I agree with the other reviewer's suggestion of purchasing the other "The Best of Blondie" released in 1981 or Parallel Lines.

For the price, and for the selection of songs this is a great album. I think the sound is very good. If you like Blondie, or collect thier music, buy this one to add to your collection. It's 35 minutes and 37 seconds (10 songs) of joy.

Yet another Blondie compilation from EMI, but no matter how many versions they release, it doesn't change the fact that these songs are classics, a must for any collector and a bargain for a casual buyer.
