4.0 out of 5 stars The Best In Tent Camping : Wisconsin
Great book. This book is great because it is so detailed. It identifies varioous places to camp and even gets down to the campsites which are nice amongst in the place being reviewed. I would give it a five but this particular edition has a flaw. The map of Wisconsin found on the inner cover of this book that "shows" where all these campsites are is a mess. For...

3.0 out of 5 stars Map is utterly useless!
As has already been commented on, the map on the inside cover showing where the reviewed campgrounds are located is truly USELESS! You will need to Google the locations or look them up on the WDNR web site, white-out and correct the erroneous sites and then add page numbers next to all the sites on the map, this makes it much more user-friendly. I really do not understand...

For example, one campsite is shown about 100 miles into Minnesota. All the publisher does is refer you to a correction you can download on the internet and paste into your new book. Poor solution. You would be suprised how much you use this aspect of the book.

I really do not understand why the publisher could not do this with the page numbers. It seems to be a theme with this series.
Once you make these changes, it's a pretty good guide book. I would have of given this book four stars if it had not been for the map errors, and five stars if they would have included page numbers next to the sites on the map.

5.0 out of 5 stars A reliable, valuable resource, July 29, 2008

I had purchased the first edition of this book, and found it so helpful that I wanted the updated version when it was available. The writer describes the camps and sites with such detail, that I always have confidence in reserving not only at a particular park, but even to request a specific campsite. A WONDERFUL resource....

4.0 out of 5 stars Handy - but you want more..., June 1, 2011

This is a great resource when looking for a spot for tent camping. It has several locations throughout the area, and rates them based upon several criteria. It even gets down to individual sites within a location.

But this is where its strength becomes its weakness. Once you get the feel for what a book like this can deliver, you want MORE. You want more locations, more reviews of individual sites at each location, and more "criteria" for ratings. For example, I go camping for astronomy. I'd like to know about sites where I can get a good look at the sky. Totally shaded or wooded sites just don't work for me.

In short, this book SPOILS us. It gives us what we want and need, even if we didn't know that we needed it. The ONLY objection is that it is too thin. It could use more sites - especially those in the SE area of the state since most of the places reviewed are in the other quadrants.

5.0 out of 5 stars Invaluable for picking just the right campsite, April 12, 2011

When faced with a long list of camp sites on the reservation page, I turn to this book. Each time we've let this book guide us we've gotten a very good spot, and I greatly appreciate the details as to "why" spots are good -- the view, the noise level, the size, whatever -- as everyone has different preferences for their sites. (For example, I'm unlikely to pick one "featuring" a 100 yard walk from the parking area, but love those described as "well screened by trees from the neighbors".) Excellent book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Love this book, and use it a lot!, May 19, 2010
This review is from: The Best in Tent Camping: Wisconsin: A Guide for Car Campers Who Hate RVs, Concrete Slabs, and Loud Portable Stereos (Best Tent Camping) (Paperback)
The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is cuz it's not perfect. There were some things I would have liked more detail on; specifically, a few of the campground maps. But I believe this book is still a great place to start. It has made me aware of places I may not have known about otherwise. The incorrect locator map in the front of the book bothered me for a while. Then I finally printed out the corrected map from the publisher's site, glued it over the old one, and now all is good.

2.0 out of 5 stars great book, WRONG MAP, August 7, 2009
This review is from: The Best in Tent Camping: Wisconsin: A Guide for Car Campers Who Hate RVs, Concrete Slabs, and Loud Portable Stereos (Best Tent Camping) (Paperback)
i'm pleased with the info in this book, however, very FRUSTURATED as the Map on the inside is WRONG!!!!!!! I can't believe this passed the editors... for instance they even show Pigeon Creek Campground, in Black River Falls, WI to be in Minnesota on their map!!!! This makes the book a nightmare to use! Very upset about this error... how did this happen????

if it wasn't for the map being so WRONG, i would've given it 5 stars.

Perfect perfect. Don't take a chance on finding the right campground, this book is a must for planning your Wisconsin camping trip, that is, if you hate RVs, noisy campers, and really love to find beauty, peace and quiet.

Well organized, easy to use, broken down perfectly. Shows you everything you need to know, down to the best campsite (a godsend for making those "blind" camping reservations). I can't find anything bad to say!!
