4.0 out of 5 stars best of tests DS
This is similar at first glance like brain academy, which I did not like. After playing it awhile, I changed my mind. I found out although it seemed simple at first, it was really challenging. Picked it up on a whim since I enjoy puzzles & brainteasers. However, certain things quickly became annoying:

It is not like Brain Age 1 and 2, but it has challenges as each new level's speed gets faster. It is easy to get fooled and make wrong choices, but you get the opportunity to get better at each level, even though you pass the minimum requirements by redoing the test(s). I recommend it for those who like Brain Age 1 & 2,and Fast Focus.

4.0 out of 5 stars RANGING FROM SIMPLISTIC TO EXTREMELY CHALLENGING, March 22, 2008

This game is challenging and there are no time limits. Many of the questions require pretty complex mental math, and sequences between numbers and letters that might frustrate some people. This is what I wanted. Most sections start off with some extremely simple questions, then they start to surprise you with harder ones. I spend some time pondering before answering some of the harder ones. There should be a better seperation between simple and difficult levels. Also, the game moves slowly between questions and does not give an IQ score. I have been using it for a week and have not seen how far the game will take me. My kids don't use it much. My personal favorite, "Brain Challenge", keeps calling me out. They grade progress by telling you what percentage of the brain you are using. If at 18%, every nook and crany of my brain is being pressure cleaned with these extremely challenging mind tortures, it makes me wonder where I'll be if I reach 70-90%. I can't say the same for "Best of Tests DS". Still, I give it 4 stars because I'm satisfied with it. I would like to see more of these brain developement games produced.

5.0 out of 5 stars Challenging and addictive, April 5, 2008

This is somewhat like many of the "brain" type games for ds but some of the others are not that great. This one is fun and very challenging. It is addictive as you want to keep playing until you can get every question right and win the gold trophy. Adults and older children will enjoy this one!

Picked it up on a whim since I enjoy puzzles & brainteasers. However, certain things quickly became annoying:

-If you are incorrect, you are not told the right answer.
-Many questions are repeated identically, particularly those involving patterns. This quickly grows dull.
-The difficulty levels are inconsistant. Some "difficult" questions will be as simple as the "easy" level (if not the very same questions), others progress too quickly. Math questions rapidly become very difficult.
-Variety was slim. Questions become more difficult with levels, but the question types don't change. Patterns for example involve cards, the alphabet, and a concentric circle shape. That's it.

The memory tests were the most interesting, although they also became repetitive. Plus since the questions rarely varied ("What order were these in?) it was easy to predict what to memorize for the picture.

If you are looking for challenging brainteasers, you will probably read too much into a lot of puzzle. For example, the 3x3 grid on the box cover. The answer is the red square, simply because the other two shapes have three pieces. It's disappointingly that simple.

I found very little fun with this game. Not thought provoking or intriguing, I recommend it if you find yourself stuck in a airport or extremely bored. There are far better memory/brainteaser/IQ games available.

I like this game, but many of the choices involve different names for objects and places, leading me to believe that it was created for a market other than America. Also (I was a teacher) it has the same problem that real IQ tests have. Many questions are dependent on familiarity with different topics rather than with intelligence. Overall, it is fun, and although you are never actually told what the answers are, certain terms turn up in other questions later on, giving you an indication of what the answer should have been.

This game is good for kids or for right before bed when your brain is shot because it is so easy. Only one person can use it, and it doesn't give any kind of score. Don't buy it if you seriously want to know anything about your real IQ, but it's ok to just have some mindless fun.

2.0 out of 5 stars Simple and repetitive, May 3, 2008
= Fun:2.0 out of 5 stars

This game is very simple and repetitive. The number of games is very limited
and the same questions present themselves on and on. It only saves scores for one person. The graphic is good. In general I do not recommend this game.

I really found this game, not that great, compared to Big Brain Academy .and Brain Challenge. When you have those games this one just doesn't quite make the grade.Actually 3 stars is being nice
I really don't think these are the best of the DS tests.

2.0 out of 5 stars Boring..., May 31, 2008
= Fun:2.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Best Of Tests (Video Game)
What a boring game! After all the other brain games my family tried, I thought this would give us a new challenge, but it's just boring to play, and we all lost interest after the first day. The questions are not even all that challenging, and I'm missing some of the fun features that other brain games have, such as fun graphics and sounds. If you've already played other brain games, this is likely to be a disappointment.

OK, this isn't a BAD game, it's just average. Yes, in the spirit of games like Brain Age, it does force you to think a bit, but Brain Age is actually stimulating. This is just sort of blah. Having said that, if you are looking for a break from Brain Age, this might not be too bad a choice to break up the monotony. Not saying there are worse or better games out there tho.
