5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent!
This compilation was exactly what I was looking for. I wanted "Coat of Many Colors" "Jolene" and "9 to 5". Believe it or not, it's not necessarily easy to find all of these songs on an inexpensive greatest hits package. It's a wonderful buy for the price. More importantly, it has induced me to buy more of Dolly's CDs.

1.0 out of 5 stars Hardly!
The best there is? Not by a long shot folks!! Sure, there are a bare handful of great songs here. "Coat of Many Colors" is simply one of the greatest country songs of all time. But the world does not need yet another compilation with "Here You Come Again," "9 to 5," and "I Will Always Love You." These songs are so readily...

5.0 out of 5 stars "The Best There Is" is Dolly Parton, March 20, 2001

Another compilation from the best, and yes, it would be nice if there were more, but its still outstanding! A collection of some of her hits from the 70's and 80's. I got this for Christmas, and I love it. The time length of 1-9: 2:43, 2:56, 4:01, 3:25, 3:02, 2:38, 2:53, 4:11, 3:16. All of these, like "Jolene," "I Will Always Love You," are the original version. Beginning with the motivational "9 To 5," and closing with the real sweet "But You Know That I Love You," this collection is the best there is and beautiful.

4.0 out of 5 stars Brief intro to Dolly, January 17, 2002

This review is from: Best There Is (Audio CD)
This short collection gives a good introduction to the varied work of Dolly Parton. The pop hits are here (9 to 5, Here You Come Again) along with some of her most beautiful country songs (Jolene, I Will Always Love You, Coat of Many Colors), as well as some songs that fall somewhere in between (Do I Ever Cross Your Mind). No, it's not complete. Unfortunately, Dolly recorded on enough different labels that there really is not a "definitive" greatest hits collection. This inexpensive collection, though, is a good start for the casual Dolly fan.

While this is a small collection of Dolly Parton's best, it is still worth having just to hear the ORIGINAL (and BEST) version of "I Will Always Love You" as written AND sung by Dolly Parton! You GO Girl with your beautiful voice and music!

5.0 out of 5 stars She sings country best. Get back to it!!!!, August 9, 1998

Dolly can sing a country song with the best of them. She needs to get back to her roots and what made her famous in first place. Dolly needs to remember the old saying, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." Her country singing was wonderful. Her country song writing was wonderful. YOU GO GIRL !!!

The best there is? Not by a long shot folks!! Sure, there are a bare handful of great songs here. "Coat of Many Colors" is simply one of the greatest country songs of all time. But the world does not need yet another compilation with "Here You Come Again," "9 to 5," and "I Will Always Love You." These songs are so readily available on so many other compilations while such stunning tracks like "Down From Dover," "Gypsy, Joe, and Me" and a host of others remain out of print. One the whole this compilation might rate 2 stars, but I have penalized it one for the ludicrous, inaccurate and misleading title. We must demand better treatment of Dolly's back catalog.
