5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT CD!, February 9, 2002
By Michael Courtney "exiled01" (San Antonio, Texas United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This greatest hits is a compilation of music from the 3 albums that Coney Hatch released around the 80's. I would prefer to have the 3 individual discs, but unfortuntately one of them is not available. This is a good collection, but with all greatest hits albums there are favorites missing, but let's get into this CD. The good news is there are at least 5 songs from each of their releases and you get almost a discful of great tunes.

Coney Hatch wasn't quite Hard Rock, but they had a straight forward approach to music and had a great beat, guitar work, and vocals. I have to thank Kim Mitchell for helping these guys out and getting them signed to Anthem records to get their music released to the world. With luck maybe OUTA HAND will get released on CD soon and the world can have the complete Coney Hatch. I'm not familiar with singles by the band, so, I'll just get into a few of their great songs you may want to treat yourself to. My favorites here are "First Time for Everything", "Don't Say Make Me", "This Ain't love", and "Devil's Deck". I would buy this just for those songs, but you also get AOR hits "Hey Operator", "To Feel the Feeling Again", "You Ain't Got Me", and "Stand Up". It's unfortunate you can't listen to clips of these songs, because Coney Hatch is full of catchy riffs and choruses.

These guys are from Canada, but present a great talent on all of their music. If you've heard them and like them, this is a great start. On the other hand, if you are looking for something new with a good sound, try BEST OF THREE. You won't regret it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Classic Hard Rock Collection, July 20, 2006
Canada's Coney Hatch was very much a product of its time. They played melodic hard rock with a metal edge, and had that certain indefinable quality that lets you know instantly that you're hearing mid-eighties hard rock. There are shades of Journey and Foreigner-style AOR here, but the band's sound is closer to bands like Axe, Rail, and countrymen April Wine. Heavy, but not quite metal. Melodic, but not quite AOR. Definitely hard rock though.

Best of Three is a compilation of material from Coney Hatch's three studio albums. Surprisingly for a "best of" compilation, there are no live tracks, though there is one song "Fuel For the Fire" that is exclusive to this disc. Best of Three is a great introduction to Coney Hatch, a band that should appeal to fans of classic hard rock.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another cool Toronto band, April 17, 2008
By LLB "LLB997" (Mississauga, Ontario Canada) - See all my reviews
Toronto has produced it's share of cool Metal/Heavy Rock bands. and THE HATCH were yet another. Along with bands like Rush, Triumph, Anvil, Sacrifice, Helix, Killer Dwarfs, Santers, Teenage Head, Goddo, Headpins and so many more, Toronto was a Hotbed of a burgeoning early 80's Heavy Metal/Hard Rock scene. Thrash, Heavy AOR and packed clubs throughout the Toronto area.
Coney Hatch were named after the Colney Hatch lunatic asylum in London , England that is. 4 strong studio musicians who under the tutulage of Max Webster mainmain Kim Mitchell and under the influence of Hot Toronto women, Molson stubbies and Saturday Night Hockey released their strong 82 debut album on Anthem records. 2 albums followed, the members grew apart and started doing other things (mostly music related) and the 3 albums they left are a great memory of a time when Toronto truly rocked. Got to meet and play some pick up Hockey with the bassist a few times in the early 00's. very solid dude btw. wish them all the best, and hope former lead singer Carl Dixon is ok, as i just readon blabbermouth that he got into a major auto collision at his home in Australia. Hopefully everyone eventually gets together for a reuion. Ive always considered THE HATCH and bands like Santer's as Toronto's hardworking answer to the 2nd tier New Wave of British Heavy Metal bands, and i mean it as a sincere compliment. buy this best of if this band is new to you and you like Melodic Metal from the early 80's
