4.0 out of 5 stars I do the rock...myself
Like a lot of people, I first became a fan of Tim Curry due to his performance in The Rocky Horror Picture Show. When I used to watch that at the infamous State Theater in Newark, DE, they'd show two of Tim's music videos before the film started - I Do The Rock and Paradise Garage. I thought the songs really rocked.

Years later, this Best Of was released and I...

Years later, this Best Of was released and I just had to get it. Besides the great tunes I mentioned, there's a lot of other great songs on here, including a really cool reggae version of The Beatles' I Will and a live version of Bob Dylan's Simple Twist Of Fate. Most of the other songs are original tunes and they're a lot of fun.

I wish Tim had a bigger singing career than he did. He's got a really cool voice and it would have been great if he had recorded more.

If you liked Tim's singing in Rocky Horror, then there's a good chance you'd be entertained by this CD. Check it out if you get the chance.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of our greats..., April 19, 2006
This review is from: Best of (Audio CD)
If you only thought he was the heart of "Rocky Horror Picture Show," well, think again. I have all his albums, and he is a very fine musician and songwriter. In this compilation, there are some terrific songs. "Cold Blue Steel," a Joni Mitchell cover, is a blow-you-away type of reworking of a great song. You won't recognize it but you probably will like it. Before Tim Curry did it, I honestly never realized it was about shooting up heroin. THAT'S how different he makes it. The rest are all also excellent.

5.0 out of 5 stars DON"T PAY FOR THIS CD HERE, January 22, 2008
This review is from: Best of (Audio CD)
Hello Tim Curry Fans!

DO NOT BUY THIS CD HERE!

WHY? Just look at the price. This is Out Of Print, yes, and it is starting to become rare, I stress 'starting to become'.

You can find this CD cheaper ANYWHERE ELSE (Ebay, online CD stores, Used Record shops, etc).

I have found this CD for $5 an up in used record stores and for way lower than $70 on ebay...try $30 and up.

It's a great CD and as of right now it's the only way to get any of his solo stuff in CD quality. First released in 1989.

You can also find the cassette for way cheaper too, try .99 Cents.

LOOK ELSEWHERE FOR THIS CD.

Tim Curry's voice and interpretations are unique. Reggae Beatles, cool Dylan, re-worked Joni Mitchell, smooth Bacharach/David, great originals. All done with style and flair. I love it when he "talks" at the end of a song.

The whole CD is fun, and Mr. Curry is a wonderful performer.

I love this CD!

4.0 out of 5 stars For those who love Tim., May 29, 2010

This is a pretty basic greatest hits from Tim Curry's (I don't want to say "solo," but if you're looking for Rocky Horror, it's not on this album) musical career in the late '70's. Mr. Curry is as underrated a singer as he is an actor, so if you're already a big fan, you won't mind paying the price for this CD (upward of $70...it's so expensive because it's been out of print for quite some time),and it is worth it in my opinion, but for the price, it's really only for those who love Tim. And I do.

I...........dont........... know............. how.......... to......... approach........ this.

Tim Curry is certainly a capable singer since he comes from a stage background and is the voice on Rocky Horror. But it also seems a bit coincidental when this came out...maybe related to the fame of Rocky Horror and notoriety of Curry's career. In the world of celebs doing music, maybe I would place him higher than Don Johnson and Bruce Willis but lower than Juliette Lewis and Will Smith? The best song is " I do the rock" but it's awfully Roxy Music-ish!!!

I guess if you are enamored and thunderstruck by Rocky Horror then you will find legitimacy with this "best of" compilation.
