Biography

“There’s a certain uneasiness to the Toadies,” says Vaden Todd Lewis, succinctly and accurately describing his band—quite a trick. The Texas band is, at its core, just a raw, commanding rock band. Imagine an ebony sphere with a corona that radiates impossibly darker, and a brilliant circular sliver of light around that. It’s nebulous, but strangely distinct—and, shall we say incorrect. Or, as… Read more in Amazon's Toadies Store

5.0 out of 5 stars A Very Toadies Farewell, November 24, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Best of Toadies: Live From Paradise (Audio CD)
This live album was recorded May 10, 2001 in Boston, MA. Its called a "best of," merely because the 18 song set covers most of the material on the band's two major releases (Rubberneck and Hell Below/Stars Above). There are 2 "unreleased tracks" advertised on the sticker; but these are an 2 minute instrumental, "ATF," and a cover of the Pixies "Where Is My Mind." The cover is fabolous and pretty true to the original, but you won't get any new Toadies stuff here besides those two.

If you're a Toadies fan, then this is a most have. Todd Lewis' brilliant voice translates live. There's no much between song banter, its pretty much song to song. If you're new to the Toadies, then just pick up Hell Below/Stars Above for an introduction.

But for the fans, here's the songlist: Plane Crash, I Come From the Water, Heel, Quitter, Hell Below/Stars Above, Little Sin, Away, Motivational, Mr. Love, Backslider, Paper Dress, Push the Hand, ATF, Possom Kingdom, Dollskin, Tyler, I Burn, Where Is My Mind.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Truly Great Live Band, January 28, 2003
By
This review is from: Best of Toadies: Live From Paradise (Audio CD)
Being a Toadies fan since "Rubberneck" and only having the chance to see them play twice, I was ecstatic to see they had released a live album. My limited live exposure to The Toadies was that of pure energy, overwhelming cohesion....and chaos. "Live From Paradise" bottles a Toadies show the best that could possibly be done.

The Toadies have only two full length albums in their catalog, so it would have been difficult for them to omit such classics as "Tyler," "Quitter," and "Dollskin." The track list from front to back truly is a "best of."

I highly recommend "Live From Paradise."
