4.0 out of 5 stars Get Greatest Hits Vol. 1 not this set
Toby Keith emerged in 1993 with the autographical hit "Should've Been A Cowboy." The rodeo's loss is country music's gain, as Keith has been one of its most dependable hitmakers over the past decade. This collection captures his first six years of hitmaking when he was on the Mercury label. Back then, his specialty was relationship songs, be they humorous...

3.0 out of 5 stars Nothing New!
I am a huge Toby Keith fan, but what is the point of this CD? Every song except "A Womens Touch" can be found on Greatest Hits One. Plus on Greatest Hits One you get "Getcha Some" and "If a Man Answers". So don't be fooled by this new release. You are better off buying Greateast Hits Vol. One!

4.0 out of 5 stars Get Greatest Hits Vol. 1 not this set, August 2, 2003
Back then, his specialty was relationship songs, be they humorous ("You Ain't Much Fun"), reflective ("We Were in Love"), or wishful ("Dream Walkin'"). Best of all is the duet with Sting on "I'm So Happy I Can't Stop Crying" which hits divorce from a male perspective dead-on.

This set adds only one extra hit from GREATEST HITS, VOL. 1.: the haunting "A Woman's Touch." Meanwhile, available on GREATEST HITS, VOL. 1 but NOT here are the good ol' boy anthem "Big Ol' Truck" as well as "Getcha Some," which offered a dopey delivery reminiscent of the Beverly Hillbillies theme song ("Black Gold, Texas Tea"). Unless "A Woman's Touch" is one of your favorite Toby Keith hits, I'd definitely go with the 14-track GREATEST HITS VOL. 1 over this 12-track collection.

By the way, to the person who wonders why "How Do You Like Me Now" isn't on this set: Keith released that on his current label DreamWorks after Mercury rejected it, causing him to leave that label. There is NO WAY Toby Keith would ever let Mercury put it out on their label now.

3.0 out of 5 stars Toby is fabulous -- this album isn't., May 7, 2003
By
I love Toby Keith, but I really don't see the point in buying this collection. "Greatest Hits, Vol. 1" would be a much better choice. It contains two previously unreleased songs, plus the same tracklisting for this record, excluding "A Woman's Touch," which was not on Toby's greatest hits album, due to the fact that it peaked at #6 and never made it into the top 5. They should have at least included his 1999 hit, "How Do You Like Me Now?!" on this Millennium set.

I recommend Toby Keith's "Greatest Hits, Vol. 1" instead of this collection. It's a much better purchase!

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy this!, January 10, 2005
I totally agree with the review "A music fan" wrote. Mercury didn't want Toby's bold and very creative writing, but now they are trying to cash in! Isn't it great they at least sold him his own songs back for the CD "How do you like me now"? They refused to release the CD and the rest is history with his new label. :-)

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't bother......, June 20, 2003
By A Customer
I LOVE Toby Keith but this cd is just Mercury records cashing in on Toby's success.
They didn't want him when he was signed with them. Since he hit
the big time with Dreamworks they're jumping on the bandwagon.
Everything on this cd is available on Toby's other cd's.

5.0 out of 5 stars Toby At Mercury, November 21, 2003
By
This CD is obviously not for you if you want all of Toby's hits up 'til today. But if you're a true Toby fan, this is a nice addition to your CD collection of him. The Millennium Collection nicely captures Toby's hit making days at Mercury Records. Although Getcha Some and a couple more are missing, it does include other greats like Should've Been A Cowboy, Who's That Man, Dream Walkin', Wish I Didn't Know Now, and eight more.

4.0 out of 5 stars Second time reviewed, September 2, 2008
I love greatest hits albums that we put out before someone got MEGA-POPULAR. This is one of those. Great songwriting on this one, but not the hits you will now hear on the radio. More country than rock on this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my favorites!, November 13, 2006

This CD is one of my personal favorites by Toby. Besides the obvious reason that they are most of Toby's early hits, I love the song "A Woman's Touch", and I love the way the songs are put in chronological order so you can hear how his amazing songwriting and singing ability grew through the years. Though, in all honesty, I really don't see how he could improve on "Cowboy"- one of my favorites... but he did.

I highly recommend this CD for anyone who is a fan of Toby Keith's God-given talents and abilities!
