THE Trance Album,
By A Customer
This review is from: Best of Trance 4 (Audio CD)
When I got this CD, I flipped through it and was neutral about it. But when on the airplane I listened through it fully, I realized that this wasn't just your average trance album. It was THE trance album. Many people do not like Trance Music, and if they don't they will probably dislike this album a whole lot. BUT, for those Trance Fans out there, this is your album. I will go through each song and review them now. Let me just say that not every song is great, but the fact that some of the songs are probably the best ever makes this album so amazing.1. Lasgo: "Alone" (4:00) (B+) This song really is overplayed on the radio, but that happens with every Lasgo song. Good song. 2. BT: "Simply Being Loved" (4:38) (A-) Though there are much too many edits to the song, this is a very good song. 3. Motorcycle: "As The Rush Comes" (3:30) (A+) One of the best songs on the album. That haunting tune just keeps on impressing me. The vocals aren't the best, but does anyone pay attention to them truly in the song? 4. DJ Sammy: "Sunlight" (3:15) (B+) The vocals aren't the best, but the music gives you a good feeling. DJ Sammy did better on "Boys of Summer" and "Heaven". 5. Ian Van Dahl: "Reason" (2:58) (B+) This song is old, so I'm surprised to see it here. It's a good song. 6. 4 Strings: "Diving" (3:32) (A) Very good song. Vocals are good, tune is great, much better than 4 Strings' first song. 7. Darude: "Music" (3:30) (B+) The music (heheh) is great but the vocals are not great. It's supposed to sound like that, crazily. 8. Andain: "Beautiful Things" (4:09)(A) Very good song. Great vocals, great tune, makes you feel good. 9. Oxygen feat. Andrea Britton: "Am I On Your Mind?" (3:17) (A) Some of the words I can't understand but the rest is all great. The vocals are great, and this mix is very well...uh...mixed. 10. Divine Inspiration: The Way (2:58) (B+) Well, I really like the background beat. The lyrics OK, the music is great. 11. Paul van Dyk feat. Hemstock & Jennings: "Nothing But You" (3:32) (A-) I love the music. This, I think, was a cell phone commercial in the UK according to the Now 55 inlay. Jan Johnston & Kym's vocals impress me and they go well with the tune. The name of the song is weird though because it has no relevance to the lyrics. 12. KMC feat. Sandy: "Get Better" (3:42) (A-) Very good song. I like the lyrics, the vocals are so-so, and the music is super. 13. Kontakt: "Show Me A Sign" (3:45) (B) The worst song on the album, though all the songs are so good this song really doesn't turn out to be bad. The vocals are good. The music is nice and the tune is catchy. It just isn't a good song, though. 14. Terra Skye: "Is This Love?" (3:48) (A-) I really like the tune and vocals. This song is old and should have been put on Best of Trance 3, but whatever. Very good song. 15. Kate Ryan: "Desenchantee" (3:38) (A+++ etc) THE BEST SONG ON THE ALBUM BY FAR. VOCALS ARE GREAT, MUSIC IS WONDERFUL, THOUGH IT IS IN FRENCH IT IS SO CATCHY THAT YOU WON'T CARE. YOU CAN GET A TRANSLATION ON THE INTERNET ANYWAY. THE SONG IS ABOUT CHAOS AND NOTHING BEING RIGHT, BUT THIS SONG CAN'T GET ANY MORE RIGHT. MY FAVORITE SONG. That wonderful song (15) concluded this wonderful album. I don't see how it can get much better; maybe replace the Kontakt Song with Jan Jonston's "Am I On Pause?" or something good like that. THE GOOD: "Desenchantee" "As The Rush Comes" THE BAD: "Show Me A Sign" THE UGLY: "Music" "Simply Being Loved" DEFINITION OF DESENCHANTEE: Disenchanted. OVERALL GRADE: A-/A

Don't listen to the naysayers! I am very, very picky about trance music. I don't like anything generic sounding or that sounds like all the other techno/trance songs, though based on a lot of the reviews, a lot of other people do. I also like vocal trance best as it adds so much more. If you are like me, you will LOVE this album. I first heard this album at Borders and was instantly hooked by "As The Rush Comes" and "Beautiful Things', two of the best songs on the CD. This CD will make you want to dance, sing and celebrate life!
The best: "Simply Being Loved" BT:excellent, unique song with male vocals, which is cool. Too many trance songs have female vocalists, it would be interesting to hear more male vocals in the trance world. "As The Rush Comes" Motorcycle: Dark, haunting, sensual with a driving beat. This song is on a lot of trance compilations for a reason, it's great! "Sunlight" by DJ Sammy: Super vocals, very pretty, uplifting tune. "Diving" by 4 Strings: Very different, a very strong vocalist and a very emotional song. "Beautiful Things" by Andain: The best song on the CD! Very pop and not 100 percent trance, but very cool. A great vocalist who is classically trained. Throbbing bassline and rhythm that will draw you in immediately. "The Way You Put Your Hand In My Hand" Divine Inspiration: Probably the most emotional tune on the disc. As the group's name indicates, very inspirational and very moving. "Show Me A Sign" Kontakt: Very hyper music and vocals, very energetic, will have you dancing in your chair, or maybe your living room. The in-between: "Nothing But You" Paul Van Dyk: Not bad, interesting world music sound but very average all in all. "Desenchantee" Kate Ryan: I'm not sure why people like this song so much, not bad but pretty average techno tune. Just b/c it is in French doesn't make it great. The worst: "Reason" Ian Van Dahl and "Get Better" KMC: These are the two songs I always skip past. They aren't totally terrible, just very generic. Both songs sound like a million songs you've heard before. Blah.

Try other albums for better tracks...,

I'm from the UK. I have NOT listened to this series, but know most of the tracks. Some tracks are poppy, rather than what I'd call trance-y. A little nursey rhyme-ish. Having said that: as an alternative, I would highly recommend the CD called Re:vive female vocal trance 01 for similar - but better - and almost 80 minues, I seem to recall - music. It's melodic, 80% vocal (i.e. 20% instrumental) and not too cheesy as IVDahl and Lasgo can be. I probably reviewed 'Re: vive' on the UK Amazon site. Also look at Anjuna Beats series (1 slightly better than 2. 3 not yet released.); and the 'Euphoria' series which go from 1999 to 2005 and counting. There are also a couple of 'greates hits' in the Euphoria series, one being a triple, which do what they say. Armin van Buuren and Tiesto shoul be checked out, too, for melodic, rather than banging and tuneless, trance. Hope that helps.

it was love. the track listing:
1. (lasgo) i couldn't decide if i liked it or not when i first heard it. then i took a trip to LA and listened to again. it's a great tune .. catchy lyrics -- nice beat. 2. (bt) where to start.. just wow. i found myself hitting repeat on this track. male vocals.. GREAT!! loves it. 3. (motorcycle) everyone that hears this song on my caller tunes [t-mobile] wants the song. it's simply one of the best, newer, trance tracks out there. 4. (dj sammy) he is great dj, no doubt... i just don't LOVE this song. it's a good song, just not one that i put on repeat. 5. (ian van dahl) this song nicely compliments the other songs. it's a good song, good beat. nice vocals. makes you feel good. 6. (4 strings) the artist says it all. 4 strings is constantly putting out great music. this is just another one of their successful songs over the years. it's really good. 7. (darude) very deep song. i don't know that i repeat this song. but it's a good song to go over 100mph to. :) 8. (andain) this is another one of the greatest newer trance tracks out there. it's pure bliss when you listen to it. and you will put this on repeat... no really you will. gah. 9. (oxygen) i like this song, once the vocals come on. the beginning is very drug out. a minute into the song, and you get your first vocals. it's a good song.. sometimes i just don't feel like waiting for the good part. 10. (divine inspiration) this song is on repeat for weeks at a time. and that's really all i need to say. it's awesome. 11. (paul van dyk) nice song to drive to when you don't wanna think. not a BEST OF TRANCE... but it's good. 12. (kmc) i don't understand why so many people dislike this song. you really will find yourself singing along to this song. there isn't soo much music you can't follow the lyrics. it's a good song, just admit it to yourself. :) 13. (kontakt) just another one of those great "let's put this on repeat cuz it's sooo good" tracks. enough said. 14. (terra skye) i nice way to start tieing up this cd. classic trance. nice mix. i don't think i've skipped it. it's nice. 15. (kate ryan) so many people dislike this song because it's "generic" and "not real trance." all i can say is.. w/e. all you people who don't speak french will be singing in french. guaranteed. don't say you haven't either. great ender. so all in all. this cd is WELL WORTH THE MONEY. if ever you are going to buy a TRANCE cd.. get this one, along with volume 2. i will be listening to both for a very very long time. 90% is REPEAT MATERIAL.<33

Excellent trance CD,

I own a lot of trance, ambient, new age, pop, acoustic and contemporary music and I love this CD. I have always loved Trance because it is very melodic, comforting, heart-felt and pure. The rhythm is accented by the melodies. I am not saying every song on every CD is going to be as good as another, but this is really nice. I have heard others than are better than some of these, but songs like "Beautiful Things" by Andain are very sweet and peaceful as well as moving. To the guy who rated this "vocal crap" you probably do not even like anything beautiful and probably think anyone who does is a lame person or stupid. That is ok because this music is too good for the likes of you. Get real. Look at all the other reviews. Most of them loved it! Which proves there is a lot more of real music lovers out there like myself.

For a compilation album, this is really great mix of trance music. The mix of songs by various artists even manage to flow well from one to the next. The three best trance artists from this era are all represented: Lasgo, Ian Van Dahl, and 4 Strings. Several other very popular artists (though not particularly favorites of my own) are also represented such as DJ Sammy, Darude, and Paul Van Dyk. If want a really good mix of songs, particularly if you're looking for a broad overview of some of the best Trance out there, then this is an excellent place to start.

Robbins Entertainment has just released volume four of "Best Of Trance". Do not let the name "Best Of Trance" fool you. I hope these people at Robbins Entertainment are not using the name just for ripping people off. The first two volumes were excellent, but volume three was mostly boring. Volume four has okay trance, but I have heard better trance than some of these songs. This isn't a mixed compilation. This is the kind of album where there are g a p s i n b e t w e e n the songs instead of the mixing where the songs sound like they've runintogether. Fine by me whether it's mixed or not. Lasgo's back with their single "Alone". It's a nice song. It had enough success to make the radio in the US. I heard it on Star 93.7. BT's in this compilation with "Simply Being Loved". It wasn't the mix I expected to hear (I was thinking about the version from "Ultra Dance 04"), but still okay. I just feel bad that BT's got into a feud with Paul Oakenfold recently and BT used to release for Perfecto. Motorcycle's "As The Rush Comes" is in here. I kinda grew to like this trance song to be honest with you. I don't know why. I really enjoyed Darude's "Music". I just liked the vocals in it. There's also "Nothing But You" by Paul van Dyk. (The first PvD song in Robbins "Best Of Trance" series and PvD is a trance master. Another reason why the name of these compilation CD's are a joke.) There have been better singles by these artists than these singles in "BOT 4". "Diving" by 4 Strings was selected instead of "Take Me Away", DJ Sammy's "Sunlight" was chosen instead of neither "Heaven" nor "Boys Of Summer" and Kate Ryan's "Desenchantee" (sung in another language) was chosen instead of "Scream For More". These songs are still okay but it still could've been better. All the other songs are kind of boring. But they're not as boring as most of the tracks in volume three. Volume four is better than volume three, but not as good as volume's one and two. They should put Ferry Corsten in one of these albums. Ferry's gifted. Remember that this isn't the best of trance but it's okay trance. Maybe Robbins Entertainment should have called it "Robbins Trance Collection" or something like that.

I am not going to give an in depth review there are plenty of those, but I can say to you who have listened and bought trance party 1, 2 and 3- do not buy this. It has 5 songs that are on those 3 trance party cds and the songs that are new arent that great except the dj sammy song (which doesnt count cuz he is awesome anyways) I was hoping to love every song on here like I did with 1,2, and 3 but nay I did not. :P

Danceable Trance with Vocals,
By
This review is from: Best of Trance 4 (Audio CD)
This is a good danceable trance album. Here's a breakdown of the tracks.
"Simply Being Loved" by BT is great...it is a mix of rock/trance/boy band funk. You just have to listen to it. It is catchy and great and makes me think of summer. It is one of those trance songs that you can actually play around non-trance music lovers and they won't beg you to turn it off. "As the Rush Comes" by Motorcycle is dreamy, breezy and earthy. Another great track. It takes a little longer to "get going" than "Simply Being Loved" but it is also a keeper. "Beautiful Things" by Andain does not sound like trance at all in my opinion. It sounds almost like something that Jewel would do but it was still danceable and earthy. It too is one of those songs non-trance music lovers will "get". "Show Me A Sign" by Kontakt is the track that jumps at you from the beginning, grabs you and doesn't let go until the end. It is the best track for club dancing on the record. Sometimes in trance music, it takes too long for the song to "get going" but this songs starts off with a bang. It is great. It can get repetitive though after listening to it for enough times but that in itself is not a big deal. "Is This Love" by Terra Skye is wonderful and "Desenchantee" by Kate Ryan is a cool foreign language song....the language barrier doesn't even matter. This cd is great if you like danceable trance with vocals.

A Fair Sampling of Recent Commercial Trance,
By
This review is from: Best of Trance 4 (Audio CD)
Simply put, this is a cheesy trance album with a handful of exceptions. It's unmixed of course, with tracks from all the familiar faces: Lasgo, BT, Motorcycle, DJ Sammy, Ian Van Dahl, 4 Strings, Darude, and Paul Van Dyk. New trance listeners need not be alarmed. This provides a fair sampling of commercial trance in the 00's.
Alone - Vocal Trance Provolone... this is minimalist commercial trance over rolling drums and aural key sirens. Not very good. Simply Being Loved - Here's a refreshing track, although it's not your conventional trance. The lower frequencies flutter in this one, and the vocal tweaks are wicked. As The Rush Comes - I don't know how many different trance mixes this song actually appears on, but there are many versions out there. This is the original radio cut - quality. Sunlight - Arguably better most of Dj SAmmy's other work, this is one of the good tracks on this album. Reason - I just have to say that it's cute. If I was a twelve year old girl living in a New York suburb, I might get my rocks off to this song. Either way, I'm not a big fan of it. Diving - Excellent trance song with a superb driving beat. Great vocal accompaniment, awesome ambient effects. This is classic trance. Music - Not a fan. Beautiful Things - The best track on the album. This is the original radio cut and it shines like gold. Awesome string sound and bass line. Am I On Your Mind - Decent cheese trance. I don't mind hearing this one now and again. The Way - Like Show Me A Sign by Kontakt, this song sounds like it borrowed elements from Binary Finary's 1998. It's an alright song for cheesy trance. Nothing But You - A radical release from Paul Van Dyk that just happened to work. This is an extremely uplifting dance track. One of the best on the album. Get Better - I don't like to think of this as trance. I'd rather think of it as dance. It's decent, but I'm not a fan. Show Me A Sign - As said before, this song sounds like 1999. It's decent trance cheese, so it's appropriately way over the top. Is This Love - Ah, cheese. Désenchantée - Decent, but ultimately... cheese. If anything, buy this album for the good tracks from BT, Paul Van Dyk, 4 Strings, Andain, and Motorcycle. This is a decent release but it just can't compete with the DJ compilations out there. If you want radio edits, buy stuff like this. |
