This review is from: The Best of UFO (1974-1983) (Audio CD)
This disc contains some of the best tracks that UFO produced during what many rate as the bands high water mark. The compilation covers the years that Michael Schenker (brother of Rudolf Schenker of Scorpions fame) played with UFO as their lead guitarist. While Schenker's guitar is quite excellent, it should be noted that UFO's sound is not isolated to just his playing, but that the band had an extremely tight sound as a unit with an awesome rhythm section, and possibly one of the best hard rock vocalist's in Phil Mogg.
Nineteen great tracks including "When It's Time To Rock" from 1983, which still enjoys air time on many rock/metal radio stations today. Other songs like "Two Hot To Handle", "Lettin' Go", and "Shoot Shoot" depict the way hard rock was laid down in the 1970's. While, like any super group, 1977's "Love to Love" was the band's power ballad and clearly shows the diversity in song writing/execution that this group possessed. If you're looking for a great disc to pick up and introduce yourself to one of England's greatest hard rock bands, you won't go wrong with this one.

Great Compilation! Great Remastered Sound!!,

This review is from: The Best of UFO (1974-1983) (Audio CD)
Michael Schenker's razor sharp soloing and perfect tone are worth the price of admission on their own but add great songs and you've got a winner! Great compilation of their best work. CD has a nice flow to it as you are hit with a barrage of hooks one right after another. No let down or boring spots. That's a testament to the great material here. As a casual fan of UFO, I was initially put off a bit by all the post-Schenker material here toward the end of the disc but have found that I enjoy those songs as well. Remastered sound is crystal clear w/ nice separation of instruments. I'm a big fan of the way bass and drums were recorded in the 70's and the remastering job here does not detract from that in any way. So good from beginning to end that I have the entire thing on my iPod. Great stuff!

Wow! Like Scorpions before "Rock You Like A Hurricane", spent their best years (with Michael Schenker, the first 12 songs) toiling in semi-obscurity. Clearly underrated, they're better than Rainbow, similar to Scorpions. The last 7 post-Schenker numbers are quite good, but not as good as the Schenker material. If hard-driving Rock and Roll is for you, then this is your album!
