3.0 out of 5 stars Bathtime, Rex!
I love UB40 because they present so many listening options. 3.0 out of 5 stars Bathtime, Rex!, July 24, 1999

I love UB40 because they present so many listening options. When you actually want to listen to MUSIC, heaven forbid, you can play some of the early stuff - 'Signing Off' and 'Present Arms' being the albums to check out (they are poorly represented on Vol. 1 and not represented on Vol. 2). When you're washing the dishes or giving the dog a bath, then you can let the great bulk of UB40's recorded output wash gently over and around, but not of course, through, you. It's all very pleasant and the essential similarity of the polite, saccahrine-sweet covers they specialise in has a cumulative effect: you and Rex will both be gently bobbing your heads by the time you towel him off. Alarmingly, some worrying signs of Songwriting are beginning to creep back into UB40's muzak: particularly 'Higher Ground' from the Promises & Lies album, and 'Bring Me Your Cup', a song so downright sensuous that Rex is likely to do very strange things to your leg unless you're careful. Woof woof!

3.0 out of 5 stars Volume One vs. Volume 1, November 17, 2005
By
This review is from: Best of Ub40 1 (Audio CD)
I purchased Volume One within the past month. This CD has only 10 tracks on it, whereas Volume 1 has 18 as mentioned in an earlier review. So if you are buying this...I recommend you verify what you're looking for!

3.0 out of 5 stars A good collection, but..., December 26, 2002

This is a good collection, but I'd buy "The Very Best of UB40 1980-2000" instead. It has almost all these tracks and more. The only songs missing from "The Very Best..." are "Breakfast In Bed" and "Please Don't Make Me Cry". The latter is a great song, but I wouldn't buy this cd for just one track. (It is also included in "Labour of Love")

4.0 out of 5 stars UB40's music is extremely good, and it keeps getting better!, June 16, 1999

I have been a fan of UB40 since 1988 and i have 16 of their albums, and every new one they come out with keeps getting better and better. They definitely know how to make great music, and it shows with albums like this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT COMPILATION!, September 23, 2000

This represents UB40 at their ultimate best and although they've gone on to do other great projects such as PROMISES AND LIES (1993) and LABOUR OF LOVE 3 (1998), its this first volume that contains all of the really great classics that UB40 will always be fondly remembered for with the inevitable selection being the classic, RED RED WINE, FOOD FOR THOUGHT, MANY RIVERS TO CROSS, I GOT YOU BABE, DON'T BREAK MY HEART and many other classic reggae tracks. Lead singers Ali Cambells vocals remain unique throughout. An excellent compilation well worth having.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Couple Of Really Good Tracks, August 7, 2005
This review is from: Best of Ub40 1 (Audio CD)
That is what this album has on it. A couple of really good tracks. I don't like some of the songs though. I bought it for Red Red Wine. Now you can get Red Red Wine AND Can't Help Falling In Love on UB40's new The Very Best of UB40 album.

4.0 out of 5 stars raggae music can't refuse it!, July 17, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Best of Ub40 1 (Audio CD)
British group named afted unemployment file called UB40. This is their first greatest hits album including great raggae music containing easy cheerfull rhythms variegated with golden voice of the lead singer Ali Campbell. Raggae - cult classic ! Especially recommended because of the original use of many various instruments, music made by people and their skills, not by machines and computers.

5.0 out of 5 stars IS THE TRACK LISTING OK?????, April 24, 2003
This review is from: Best of Ub40 1 (Audio CD)
I WAS READING THE REVIEWS WHEN I STOPPED AT ONE THAT SAID HE WOULD'NT BUY THIS CD JUST FOR ONE OR TWO SONGS NOT INCLUDED IN THE NEWER COMPILATION "THE BERY BEST OF UB40..." AND THEN I WAS CHECKING THE TRACK LISTING AND, MY FRIENDS, THERE ARE SEVERAL TRACKS MISSING ON YOUR LIST.
THEY SHOULD BE 18 AND NOT 10 SONGS: King, Food For Thought, My Way Of Thinking, The Earth Dies Screaming, Dream A Lie, Don't Let It Pass You By, Don't Slow Down, One In Ten, Red Red Wine (7"), Please Don't Make Me Cry, Many Rivers To Cross, Cherry Oh Baby, If It Happens Again, I Got You Babe (with Chrissie Hynde), Don't Break My Heart, Sing Our Own Song (7"), Rat In Mi Kitchen (7"), Maybe Tomorrow .
I PERSONALLY RECOMMEND BUYING "BEST OF VOL. 1" AND VOL. 2 AND YOU'LL GET A MUCH BETTER COLLECTION OF THIS LEGENDARY REGGAE BAND.
