5.0 out of 5 stars Wiping up the competition, November 22, 1999
By
This review is from: The Best of Uncle John's Bathroom Reader (Uncle John's Bathroom Reader Series) (Paperback)
This book is an absolute must for those seeking to find a gift for the ones who have everything. To be well appreciated, one must have a sense of humor. This book is informative, fun, and gives the reader a wee bit to think about while doing their business. It is also the ideal book to read on airplanes because of the ease with which one becomes absorbed in the articles. Airplanes are not the easiest places to read, as you well may know. All in all, it is an excellent book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome! Definitely better than Reader's Digest., June 12, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Best of Uncle John's Bathroom Reader (Uncle John's Bathroom Reader Series) (Paperback)
I love this book. At first, I just read it on the john. Now, I read it whenever I'm bored! By the way, people used to call the 'John' the 'Jake' in the mid 1500's. That transitioned to 'Cousin John' which later shortened to just 'John'. No, this book is not just limited to captivating info on the chair that doesn't recline but has a handle, it also divulges Mel Brooks' REAL name. I guarantee, this book will enlighten you beyond your current enlightenment. Enough shameless plugs, just buy the book. (save...using Amazon.com)

Very good and entertaining book. You will not want for variety in the "reading room". I have actually taken it to bed a few times because the text is very unique and diverse. I'm no Einstein but I know a lot of trivia and this has kept me on the edge of my seat, (don't go there...) If you add it to your collection, it will become a worn cover favorite.

4.0 out of 5 stars Probably more interesting than your... hmmm. Forget it., March 15, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The Best of Uncle John's Bathroom Reader (Uncle John's Bathroom Reader Series) (Paperback)
"Best" is a dubious distinction when you're talking about text intended to, how should we say, distract you from the task at hand? Nonetheless, the factoid-like entries in "Uncle John's" are purposefully concise -- few are over two pages -- wonderfully obtuse, and often hilarious... which occasionally leaves one to explain an outburst of laughter coming from the water closet. My advice? Keep this in the master bathroom, where no one can hear you giggle.

5.0 out of 5 stars Take your seat, sit back, relax, and enjoy!!!, March 15, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Best of Uncle John's Bathroom Reader (Uncle John's Bathroom Reader Series) (Paperback)
For the man/woman who has "everything", who couldn't use an easy-to-read, easy-to-pick-up, easy-to-put-down compendium of fun and fast paced antecdotes, amusing stories, and interesting(and generally useless) facts??? This book has brought me considerable entertainment and a few out right belly laughs during my past visits to the throne. Well worth the investment. It doesn't cost too much, and the time you spend is "free time" anyway!!

4.0 out of 5 stars A must for the bathroom library..., March 19, 1998
This review is from: The Best of Uncle John's Bathroom Reader (Uncle John's Bathroom Reader Series) (Paperback)
Uncle John has been delighting us for years with the Bathroom Readers collection. This book brings out the best of all of it - with several different lengths of stories, articles, and tidbits to choose from, this book will keep you entertained for however long you are "otherwise occupied." All the articles are cleanly written, and they focus on trivia that even the most laissez-faire will find fascinating. There really is no other trivia book that compares. You can forget about hunting down facts in dry, dusty tomes - grab a copy of this book (or any other in the series) and enjoy your trivia for a change!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Bet you didn't know that;but now you do!!, March 5, 2011
This review is from: The Best of Uncle John's Bathroom Reader (Uncle John's Bathroom Reader Series) (Paperback)
This "Reader" was published in 1995;yeah;I know, that was a while ago,but it is just as good and interesting as if it were published this year. These "Readers' are timeless, and that's the reason why, if you visit your favorite bookstore;you'll find a whole section of them, with current as well as previously published editions.that's something that you can't say for too many books.
This is a rather hefty Edition with 522 pages to entertain and inform you. Why;after going through this volume ,you'll become so knowledgeable that you'll hardly be able to live with yourself...or anyone else .
As a Western novel fan,I learned about the truth of the "The Toughest Town In the West".Of course, many know that John Wayne's real name was Marion Michael Morrison;but do you know the real names of,Tony Curtis,Twiggy,Wolfman Jack,Yul Brynner,W.C. Fields,Rodney Dangerfield or Jack Benny;well, you will find out here. There's some Limericks to entertain you, some "Myths about America" that will astound you,the history of "The New York Times Crossword Puzzle",the history of the "Monopoly " game, the total scoop on the "Death of Mrilyn Monroe",and even a great section covering "Presidential Health Secrets" of JFK,Grover Cleveland,Woodrow Wilson,F.D.R.,D.W.Eisenhower and Ronald Reagan.
If all that ,and thousands of more stuff doesn't make your trips to "the Potty" enlightning;I don't know what else would.
