Biography

Born July 30, 1941, in Ottawa into a tight-knit Canadian family, Paul Anka didn’t waste much time getting his life in music started. He sang in the choir at Church and studied piano. He honed his writing skills with journalism courses, even working for a spell at the Ottawa Citizen. By 13, he had his own vocal group, the Bobbysoxers. He performed at every amateur night he could get to in his… Read more in Amazon's Paul Anka Store

5.0 out of 5 stars At last a well researched compilation, October 13, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The Best of the United Artists Years 1973-1977 (Audio CD)
It's hard to believe that Anka has been going longer than most people in the business and still doing the business. He's had lots of different periods in his career and this compilation is a well researched sample of his 4 years at United Artists. Love him or hate him, you've just got to admire the sheer vitality in his work and the originality of his songs and presentation. Among the great tracks here are Anytime (I'll Be There) which was also recorded by Sinatra, Happier which really builds into a great song and Let Me Get To Know You, which was a hit in Spain. All of the tracks are pretty darn good, with the possible exection of Everything Is Super Now which doesn't quite come off. Nevertheless, it's worth having in any collection

4.0 out of 5 stars Not quite the Best Of, August 18, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: The Best of the United Artists Years 1973-1977 (Audio CD)
My only complaint is the first track " Let Me Get To Know You". Is not the original single recording,as listed in the credits. I own a copy of the original 45 single. And my 45 single has a better performance. I was glad this CD included the full length version of "Make It Up To Me Love". So many times extended versions get cut down or remixed. I want it the way I remember it. I only wish the other record companies would release the extended versions of their dance hits.
