About the Author
Joseph Hurley is founder and CEO of Savingforcollege.com LLC, an Internet-focused consulting and publishing company in Pittsford, New York providing information and services relating to section 529 qualified tuition programs ("529 plans"). He has worked for over 20 years providing tax planning services to individuals, business, and tax-exempt organizations as tax partner with Bonadio & Co. LLP, a 100-person CPA firm in Rochester, New York. Hurley is a member of American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants, and the Upstate New York chapter of the Financial Planning Association.
Hurley has written the first comprehensive book on 529 plans, "The Best Way To Save For College A Complete Guide to 529 Plans", and he produces a newsletter for professionals called "The Hurley Report on College Investing". His web site at savingforcollege.com is considered by many to be the best source of information about this type of investment. Hurley has been widely quoted in the media, including The Wall Street Journal, TIME, Business Week, and USA Today and he has appeared at hearings in Washington to comment on the IRS proposed regulations under section 529.
Hurley graduated from Williams College in 1978 and lives with his wife and two children in Penfield, New York. Together they have college savings accounts with 529 plans in twenty different states.
