Book Description

August 1997
In The Best of Wildlife Art, you'll see fine renderings of animals combined with top-notch landscape paintings of some of the most beautiful and intense environments in the world. These paintings are accompanied by commentary from the artists on inspiration, technique, field research, subject and insight on how they achieved colors and patterns, exquisite detail, unique viewpoints, action, expressive lighting, out-of-the-ordinary poses, animals' unique characters, tension, and nature's camouflage.

Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

While seven approaches to acrylics worked in her volume reviewed above, Wolf's showcase of 96 approaches to wildlife painting may be 89 too many. The fact that these artists are some of the best working in this genre helps, but each is given only a paragraph to discuss his or her work. The result may be useful as a portfolio for ideas, but Rod Lawrence's more unified Painting Wildlife Textures Step by Step (LJ 3/15/97) is a better choice for all but large collections.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good source of inspiration, February 2, 2001

This review is from: The Best of Wildlife Art (Hardcover)
As well as a good place to see different styles displyed together but it would have been nice to include some art-in-progress info on the various artists so the reader could see the different techniques in action. Overall, though, the quality of the artwork is amazing and a wonderful book to look through when you are looking for inspiration.
