Book Description

Best Women's Erotica December 30, 2000
There's a new audience of readers who demand the most intelligent, provocative women's erotica - stories that tell the truth about women's sexuality in all its variety and emotional depth," writes series editor Marcy Sheiner. A decade after the explosion of women-authored erotica hit the publishing world, the genre has evolved to a sophisticated level of stunning talent and startling sexual honesty. As with the first volume, which included notable erotica authors such as Tara Alton, Hanne Blank, Cara Bruce, Susannah Indigo, Maryanne Mohanraj, Leslea Newman, and Susan St. Alban, Best Women's Erotica 2001 features 20 stories by authors whose work has appeared in Playgirl, Penthouse, Playboy, and Libido.

Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

While the editor of this fine annual collection, Marcy Sheiner, argues in her introduction that these stories dwell on "the darker side of sex"--revenge, anger, grief--there is a redemptive quality to passion that often outweighs whatever unworthy motives may have inspired the deed. Although there is plenty of frivolous, one-handed reading in this year's edition, many of the pieces included have the hallmarks of literary fiction; they are not merely about a sexual event, but offer a revelation of character through that event. Lisa Glatt's "Waste," Anne Tourney's "Rope Burn," and Susannah Indigo's "The Language of Snakes" would shine in any short story anthology. Yet even the simplest and most graphic stories here can surprise the reader with their casual illuminations. In Tabitha Flyte's "After Loss," for example, a young woman and her brother-in-law stumble into sex after returning from her father's funeral. When she first feels his comforting arms around her, she reflects on how differently men and women embrace: "When I am hugged by a woman I feel that the arms around me say, 'Yes, you can do it, you can.' When I am held by a man I feel that I am being told, 'No, you don't have to do it, you don't.'" A remarkable volume, evidence of the considerable talent being directed toward erotica in recent years. --Regina Marler

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent erotica, May 19, 2000

An excellent erotica collection. Susannah Indigo and Susan St. Aubin are 2 of my favorite erotic writers, so it was a delight to see them bookending this collection with funny stories. I love to read a book like this on an airplane, because it makes everyone wonder why I'm such a *happy* traveler

Some beautiful, sexy stories in the 2001 book! I was so excited when I saw there was a new year in this series, and couldn't wait to read it. The story by G.L. Morrison about the woman seducing her husband's lover is excellent, and so is Susannah Indigo's story about the girl who was mute. Smart women writing erotica, that's what I love to read!

As a fan of erotica, I'm always on the lookout for something good to read. Best Women's Erotica is a fabulous collection of tales from some amazing storytellers. The stories range from sublimely sensual (Kate Dominic's "The Album") to delightfully humorous (Jenesi Ash's "Santa's Little Helper") to powerfully erotic (Kristina Wright's "Service Entrance") and everything in between. There is something here for every reader of erotica and each story has something delicious to offer. Editor Marcy Sheiner proves once again why she is at the forefront of women's erotica. The woman is a goddess!
