5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent erotica
An excellent erotica collection. Susannah Indigo and Susan St. Aubin are 2 of my favorite erotic writers, so it was a delight to see them bookending this collection with funny stories. I love to read a book like this on an airplane, because it makes everyone wonder why I'm such a *happy* traveler

1.0 out of 5 stars This book is horrible
After what I had heard, I thought this book was going to be really great. Imagine my dismay when it read more like a depressing cautionary tale of how not to live your life- stories about AIDs and homelessness just don't do it for me. But if depressing, poorly written stories that lecture rather than arouse are what you're looking for, then this is the book for you. VERY...

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent once again!, December 17, 2000

Some beautiful, sexy stories in the 2001 book! I was so excited when I saw there was a new year in this series, and couldn't wait to read it. The story by G.L. Morrison about the woman seducing her husband's lover is excellent, and so is Susannah Indigo's story about the girl who was mute. Smart women writing erotica, that's what I love to read!

This review is from: Best Women's Erotica (Paperback)
As a fan of erotica, I'm always on the lookout for something good to read. Best Women's Erotica is a fabulous collection of tales from some amazing storytellers. The stories range from sublimely sensual (Kate Dominic's "The Album") to delightfully humorous (Jenesi Ash's "Santa's Little Helper") to powerfully erotic (Kristina Wright's "Service Entrance") and everything in between. There is something here for every reader of erotica and each story has something delicious to offer. Editor Marcy Sheiner proves once again why she is at the forefront of women's erotica. The woman is a goddess!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, April 4, 2005
First, I would like to point out that this anthology seems to be geared toward heterosexual women, although there are a couple lesbian/bisexual stories. If you prefer stories with a lesbian or bisexual bent, then I suggest passing on this and picking up an anthology geared specifically toward lesbian/bi sex. It should also be said that if you are a fan of the erotic anthologies edited by Susie Bright, you may not like this anthology as this book stays away from the shocking just for the sake of being shocking material so often present in Ms. Bright's anthologies.

I've read innumerable erotic anthologies, and this is by far my favorite. Not only are the stories intelligent, but they stay away from the old, boring, technical descriptions of the in/out. If you like an erotic story that is very sexually detailed (like a sports play by play), then you may not like this. Instead, and refreshingly, most of the authors ventured into the deeper aspects of sex.

In the opening story, Nine Seven Zero, the narrator tells us how her boyfriend, as he is leaving her, helped her break free of her destructive sexual binds. In "The C*** Book, we learn the story of John's "Uncle Jacques", who took pictures of women's genitals over the course of 80 years and collected them in a book. Intrigued, the narrator lets John take her picture, and for the first time is able to see herself as a man would see her. In "Just Passing Through" a woman disguises herself as a man and goes to a gay nightclub to find out what sex is like between two men.

I thought the best story was "What the Box Fan Saw", a story of incredibly passionate sex stemming from a fight. This anthology pays as much attention to how things are said as to what is being said. If you enjoy erotica that is intelligent, well written, and aims to get you genuinely aroused instead of merely shocking you, then you'll like this anthology.

5.0 out of 5 stars A thoroughly enjoyable (and hot) collection, December 28, 2002
By A Customer
Many found Sheiner's 2002 collection to be a little dark for their tastes -- I was among them.

The 2003 collection is a more balanced mix of stories, that will appeal to sexual-thinking women of every persuasion. The anthology opens with a bang. "Betty" by Ann Dulaney is one of the standout stories -- a beautifully written story that would shine in any short story collection. There are the usual standard-fodder down-and-dirty dildo stories that seem to be pervasive in modern erotica these days, and Sheiner's darker side emerges in stories such as "Bad Girl", with its suggestions of incest.

But this year's collection, with its subtle edge of sadness, has some evocative writing. For me, stand out stories were "Plain Women" by Lisa Prosimo, with its refrain of insecurity and tender loving, and "Kamini's Story" by Cheyenne Blue, a haunting, beautifully written tale of loss of virginity, that still sizzled off the page. And who will forget "Man and Woman: A Study in Black and Write", an inter-racial story of hot sex, fantasy, and stereotypes.

Women who love women are not ignored. Rachel Kramer Bussel contributes "Lap Dance Lust", a hot and sexy story about a dyke in a men's lap dance club. And Zonna's "What You're In For", a story about powerplay in prison.

Overall, a thumbs up for this collection. I was certainly delighted to get it in my christmas stocking!

What a delightful book of stories -- fresh, funny, sexy, and interesting. I love the 'Monica' dream fantasy, the story about the woman buying 400 eggs, and the story about the woman who preferred vegetables to her boyfriend!

5.0 out of 5 stars Another winner in the series, November 17, 2001
By A Customer
The Best Women's Erotica series has been my favorite since it's come out and I have eagerly been awaiting this volume. It's a bit darker than the one's before but that's what makes it so great - it is so real. It tackles sex like it really is. It features some of my favorite writers like Susan St. Aubin, Susannah Indigo and Cara Bruce. All 3 of these books are great. This one did not disappoint.

4.0 out of 5 stars Gets my wife hot, July 8, 2002

This review is from: Best Women's Erotica 2001 (Paperback)
I was looking for ways to stretch my wife's sexual imagination and this book was something sexy but less explicit than porn, and even though it was expensive, she was willing to try it. SO now we read it at bedtime, and it always turns her on. Try it guys. It works for her, which works for me ;)

I just finished reading both the 2000 and 2001 series, which I got for a Christmas present. Outstanding. Mel Gibson could take a clue and read these -- *this* is what women want.
