Book Description

August 14, 2012 Best Women's Travel Writing (Book 8)
Since publishing the original edition of A Woman’s World in 1995, Travelers’ Tales has been the recognized leader in women’s travel literature, and with the launch of the annual series The Best Travel Writing in 2004, the obvious next step was an annual collection of the best women’s travel writing of the year. This title is the eighth in an annual series—The Best Women’s Travel Writing—that presents stimulating, inspiring, and uplifting adventures from women who have traveled to the ends of the earth to discover new places, peoples, and facets of themselves. The common threads connecting these stories are a woman’s perspective and fresh, compelling storytelling to make the reader laugh, weep, wish she were there, or be glad she wasn’t. The points of view and perspectives are global, and themes are as eclectic as in all of our books, including stories that encompass spiritual growth, hilarity and misadventure, high adventure, romance, solo journeys, stories of service to humanity, family travel, and encounters with exotic cuisine.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing!! August 8, 2012
By Laurie
Format:Paperback
Whether you are a hard core wanderer or arm chair traveler, I think you will love this book. Read one story and you are on a boat in Belize, turn the page and you are climbing the Great Wall. You will read stories on Sicily, Vietnam, Afghanistan, Cuba,Zambia and more. It is an amazing compilation of women travel writing and I enjoyed every story. AND you don't have to be a woman to enjoy this, men you know you want to read it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring! December 18, 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I first opened this book while I was sitting by the fire in a little town in Southwest France. As I started reading the first story, I realized that I was in the same town that the author was describing (and I had met the brother of the lead character)! What an incredibly small World! And, what an incredibly great book! A must read if you think you might want to travel or if you already have the travel bug.

5.0 out of 5 stars The next best thing to actually boarding a plane yourself! September 22, 2012
By Fatima
Format:Paperback
For anyone who loves to travel, this is an affordable, but equally fulfilling, alternative. I had intended to hop around the book picking and choosing which story (country) I'd like to visit. One of the reasons I enjoy a good anthology is because each story is its own tasty bite size morsel which can be consumed when feeling peckish. But with this year's collection, I couldn't put it down. I devoured an entire international smorgasbord from the comfort of a lawn chair and a sunny afternoon. I started off searching for an ice cream artist in a small provincial French town and it was all over. I was hooked. I wanted to go on more adventures with these ladies. From The Great Wall of China to a sexy Argentine taxi driver to an alter ego in Mexico, stopping only to Google search places referenced. Like with any anthology it's the balance that really shines. There's something in here for everyone: funny, touching, honest, reflective, uplifting.
