I've been meaning to rate this album for quite sometime so, here I am. It's a masterpiece. All of the tracks are great. I have just about all of Grover's albums and for those of you looking to add him to your collection, this would be a great addition. The man and his music have so captivated my own life that I'm at a loss for words as I'm typing this review. He was simply the best. Yes, there are many, many Sax players out there that are great but it's something about Grover that made you feel like he was a close personal friend. The man and his music are sorely missed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Grover Grooves, May 11, 2005
This review is from: Best Is Yet to Come (Audio CD)
I found this album in a thrift shop for $1.00 in mint condition
I own most of Grover's work with the exception of Mister Magic.
Inner City Blues is my favorite though, it rivals the original.
This record, The Best Is Yet To Come isn't properly titled.
"It just doesn't get any better than this," is what I said after I listened to the title track. Patti Labelle and Grover sound heavenly. This is definitly one of the jewels Grover left us.
It made me realize how great he was and how much he'll be missed.
The album sleeve is a fantastic photo of him worthy to be framed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Long ago and far away, June 29, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Best Is Yet to Come (Audio CD)
I was on the plane for my study in the US back then (some years ago). On the short stop in Singapore I bought this album, another album by Grover called "Come Morning" and Billy Joel's "River of Dreams". These three albums accompanied me on the way to my destiny wherever that was since I had never thought I would be so far away and for so long. I was also excited of what was coming for me. Remember, an 18 years old college student never have an answer!

Fantastic art cover (so does Come Morning), smooth sounds and most importantly the final tune called "Cassie & Co". As a soundtrack for a tv series that I never saw, it captured what I felt about the longing of home. It was sad, chilly but also comforting that somebody out there knew exactly what I felt. The experience of smelling the autumn air, and the taste of September wind just brought back all those memories.

Most importantly out of nowhere, I dug this album yesterday and as I was laying on my bed, eyes closed, drifted in pure bliss. I thought about those school breaks and how often I played this album. I realize how beautiful it is. I also realize how I miss those days.

It's too bad when I looked up this album on Amazon, nobody wrote a review so I shared my feelings about this album. Sometimes good things will come for those who wait, because deep inside we always know that "The Best Is Yet To Come"!

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely the Greatest!!!, February 27, 2004

I don't know how else to explain how much of an impact this man has had on my musical life. Every since I was about 5! I remember back in the day riding with my pops in his dark blue chevy pick up ....bumping Mr. Magic!!! That's when I discovered how much I loved jazz and Mr. Washington made it happen! Whenever I'm sad...i throw in Grover...doesn't matter which CD it is...because they all are the bomb. But Mr. Magic is my joint...and it always lifts my spirits!!!

Anyway, enjoy the album...and don't hesitate to get it if you haven't already!!! He's a musical genius and you must ...ABSOLUTELY MUST experience him!!!

Beetle aka Tonya :-)

I bought the cd for my husband as anniversary gift. He played the saxophone in high school. Glover Washington is one of his favorite jazz musicians.

One of the best inspiring jazz music and a classic that must be heard. I lost the first Cd and decided to buy it again. Just hear the song "Things are getting better" and "The best it yet to come" and you will be motivated to keep on no matter what is on your way. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Grover Still Grooving By The Winelight, January 16, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Best Is Yet to Come (Audio CD)
Basking in the success baught to him by means of Winelight and it's equally winning follow up release Come Morning Grover Washington kept Marcus Miller and Richard Tee in the fold, which is a great choice if your looking to make this kind of music function really well and also baught in Philly's Dexter Wansel in for the title cut-a high point of the album and worth discussing in the beginning. Long aware of how well the soul vocal duet worked with his kind of sax playing Grover had Patti Labelle come in and throw down one of her best performances and trust me:she has many many more where that came from. Another great creative point is how a little twitch of the mixing console allows Patti's wailing vocal cry to sound as if it's leaping out of Grover's..wailing cry on sax. I've heard it before but that little effect gets me every time. There are two fast jams on this album too. "Can You Dig It" and most importantly "Mixty Motions",with it's cleverly misspelled title both really put percussionist Ralph McDonald to good use on the kind of jazz-funk groove Grover did best: dancably soulful with a certain lightness and understatement from everyone involved. Even though later smooth jazz sugar coated that idea way too much in places.....brevity is a wonderful thing,in writing about music and often enough in playing it. At the same time it's important to be able to do this without sounding too forcably natural and hollow. I can't point out enough that Grover was one of the masters at avoiding those pitfalls during these years and every song here comes from that place. After all you also see how midtempo, soulful fare such as the Bobby McFerrin sung "Things Are Getting Better" as well as caribbean flavored smooth funk like "More Than Meets The Eye","Brazilian Memories" with it's low and errie synthesizer riffs and "Cassie's Theme" how even a somewhat lower tempoed groove, with the same sort of lightness in tow have even more of that "heavy on easy" type strengh and power in them than some faster ones. Not only is sometimes less more but also you hear the strengh of the individual musicians a little more as well. The album is rounded out with "I'll Be With You",another Philly style soul-jazz ballad sing by bassist Cedric Napoleon. Not only does this album showcase Grover's well established light but elaborate sax style but the spongy jazz-funk rhythm section with him. Those who enjoyed the style of Winelight, especially as an extention of his recordings in the late 70's backed by Locksmith than this is something you'll want to hear.
