4.0 out of 5 stars Is It The Best Yet, or The Biggest Yet?
Switchfoot is certainly a driving force within the realm of Christian Rock, and after six albums, they've certainly cemented their place. So in-between their current crossroads, they want to make sure you know they're still around, so they've put out a best-of album. And of course, as is the case with all best-ofs, they open a can of worms to wiggle about...

2.0 out of 5 stars Too many unenjoyable songs
I like a few Switchfoot songs fairly well -- namely, the ones I've heard on the radio. I bought this album in anticipation of finding more songs that I like. Which was true - I did find another song or two that I liked - but the majority of them aren't ones I want to listen to again. I love it when I find an artist or a group who have albums where I enjoy most every song...

4.0 out of 5 stars Is It The Best Yet, or The Biggest Yet?, November 17, 2008
This review is from: The Best Yet (Audio CD)
Switchfoot is certainly a driving force within the realm of Christian Rock, and after six albums, they've certainly cemented their place. So in-between their current crossroads, they want to make sure you know they're still around, so they've put out a best-of album. And of course, as is the case with all best-ofs, they open a can of worms to wiggle about.

But the usual pitfall is avoided here, by coming out with a strong set of songs that represent the vastness of Switchfoot. A strong set of 18 tracks anchor the release, almost maxing out the allowed time for a CD, but they add nothing you've never heard before. Of course there's a bias towards "The Beautiful Letdown," with it making up a third of the album. And also not surprisingly, the album has mostly songs from their last three releases. The range is a very good overview of the band, from the classic "Learning to Breathe," the haunting "Only Hope," to the amazing "Twenty-Four." You'll also get their Chronicles of Narnia track, "This Is Home."

And while it's still a pretty good overview, and better than what most bands do, they still left out songs like "Chem 6a," "New Way To Be Human," "You Already Take Me There," and "Paparazzi." Trivial sure, and fan-favorites all the way, they still did a good job regardless. But then there's the classic best-of question of, "Who's this for, exactly?" The answer is of course limited to the new fans, and the hardcore fans. Of course, if you get the special edition with the DVD, it just becomes that more appetizing.

So overall, for a best-of release, it gets a lot right. Good song selection from a great band. I'd rather the band released a b-side album like Relient K and Anberlin have done, or a professional live album, since they put on a great show. But for the audio portion, there just aren't many reasons to buy. Consider however if you get the edition with the DVD.

5.0 out of 5 stars What's not to love?!!!, January 6, 2009
This review is from: The Best Yet (Audio CD)
Switchfoot proves that talent can triumph over trash, and this new collection is an instant winner. I can't seem to get enough of Jon Foreman's one-of-a-kind voice. The only downside to this new collection is the absence of some of the awesome tracks from their Beautiful Letdown CD (which is itself a Switchfoot "best of")-- but I guess there is only so much room for fantabulous hits on one little CD. . . Hey, why not make it a double?. . .Anyway, it's a must-have!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Album, December 22, 2008

This is an excellent mix of the best songs of the Switchfoot albums. It also includes their hit single from the "Chronicles of Narnia, Prince Caspian" soundtrack. If you are a switchfoot fan, this is a must buy. If you are unfamiliar with the band, this cd contains all the songs they are known for so it is a quick way to get hooked on them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fans and radio listeners alike will love this collection, November 6, 2008

Switchfoot is a very honest group. They pull no punches when exploring their faith, the world around them, and even themselves. Many people find reflections of themselves in Swithcfoot's music. It is the very essence of what it is to be human. If you do not own a Switchfoot album, or only bought Beautiful Letdown - do yourself a favor and pick up the collection of what truly is The Best Yet of Switchfoot.

I loved this CD. I didn't have many of the Switchfoot CD's, so this was a great pick for me. I love every song on it.

4.0 out of 5 stars A solid best of collection., February 13, 2009
This review is from: The Best Yet (Audio CD)
There are few songs here that I don't care for, one of them is This Is Home the new song from The latest addition to The Chronicles Of Narnia. I don't care for that song but the piano in it is somewhat of a saving grace.

Oh Gravity! seems to not hurt or help the album. I guess it could have been left off.

The rest of the songs are either good or listenable. There are ZERO songs that I hate on this collection and although I don't purchase greatest hits CDs like evvvvver, this one is good and I'm happy I own it.

Some of my favorites in no order are Concrete Girl, 24, Dare You To Move, Learning To Breathe, On Fire and The Beautiful Letdown.

If you have most of Switchfoot's CDs, then I wouldn't recommend this really. I have the edition with the videos too, but I'm not rating that, just the standard CD.

But if you're like me and only have one Switchfoot CD or less, but like the band, I recommend this strongly. It is somewhat mellow with a few kickers in there that you can jam to.

Very fun listen. :)

4 stars.

This is a great collection of some of the biggest and best songs of switchfoot...
for any casual fan, it's a perfect compliation.
I am definitely getting this for the brilliant 'this is home' which hasn't been included in any switchfoot album before
for any hardcore fans, the deluxe edition (with a great DVD) is the way to go
When is Amazon gonna make that available?
I would buy it if it comes out!

This CD is as described (THE BEST YET). It's full of some of their older stuff to some of the newer. Songs from their album 'The Beautiful Letdown' to their newer album 'Hello Hurricane'. Switchfoot has always been one of my favorite bands, and always will be. I highly recommend this album to those of you that are huge Switchfoot fans as I am!
