Book Description

November 1, 2006
New York’s an incredible sports town, and the reasons go beyond its unmatched array of teams, star athletes, championship titles, and landmark moments.

What truly sets the Big Apple apart are its sports fans and sports conversations. Whether the subject’s baseball, football, basketball, hockey, tennis, boxing . . . if something’s within shouting distance of the tabloids or the Times, New Yorkers are always talking about it.

The Best New York Sports Arguments goes to the heart of it all. Examining everything from the underestimated to the overrated, from the heroes to the goats, Peter Handrinos presents a highly original take on the greatest sports town in America.

Arguments include:
The worst team of all time: the '62 Mets or...?
Is King George a tyrant?
Namath or Messier: who made the greater "guarantee"?
Who was the bigger brat: Connors or McEnroe?
Lou & Cal Jr.: who was tougher?
Jordan or Riley: who was enemy #1 at the Garden?

4.0 out of 5 stars Very informative and in-depth, November 3, 2007
This review is from: The Best New York Sports Arguments: The 100 Most Controversial, Debateable Questions for Die-Hard New York Fans (Paperback)
This was a very easy read for me and I found it very in-depth and behind-the-scenes. Handrinos presents a lot of inside information that even the most die-hard sports fans probably don't know about. What I liked was that it was obvious that he put in a lot of extensive reseach and preperation for the book. Some of the debates are a little overboard and bloated (I really don't care about Babe Ruth and Barry Bonds' OPS+ or the 1927 Yankees Pythagorean winning percentage) but overall the book is fun and easy to read and I definitely recommend it, especially to New York sports fans.

He uses racial overtones in the Keyshawn Johnson Wayne Chrebet arguement. But when he ripped the Godfather of Giants football and the NFL Wellington Mara that was all for me. But I will give him credit he tells the truth no Yankee fans wants to hear about A-Rod vs Derek Jeter
