4.0 out of 5 stars awesome band, o.k. mix c.d.
i absolutely love the band, but i think they could have picked a better selection. i guess they have too many good songs for one disc. maybe it should have been a double c.d, but its not at all bad. if you have all the others then theres no point in getting it, but for a first time listener you should definately get it!!

To coincide with the release of (hed)p.e.'s latest effort, "Back To Base X," Jive Records has conveniently released a "Greatest Hits" package on the same day. Now, you may be thinking to yourself two things:

1. How can a band who never really had any hits have a "Greatest Hits" compilation anyways?

2. How can a record label milk a collection such as this out of a mere three records?

Well, my friends, this is simply what we call a cash-in. "The Best Of (hed) Planet Earth" takes 15 random songs from (hed)p.e.'s three Jive releases -- "Blackout," "Broke" and the self-titled album -- and re-releases them to the public without anything new to spice things up. Nope, no remixes, no demos, live stuff, b-sides. No nothing. Quite simply, if you own these three albums already, you essentially own this one as well. Out of all the recent "old-record label cash-ins" (with Korn and Sevendust being two prime examples) this has to be the weakest. Jive doesn't even try to make this appealing to the hardcore fanbase. Perhaps more people would have picked up this album had there been one or two things not previously released.

As for the selection, make no mistake. It's a great set of songs. Some of the group's more recognizable tunes such as "Bartender," "Killing Time," "Blackout" and "Otherside" are set among other, lesser played but still superb songs like "Ken 2012" and "The Meadow" (my personal favorite). "The Best Of (hed) Planet Earth," at the very least, does a good job of capturing the band in their golden era. Afterall, these guys have definitely lost their touch and a huge amount of relevance over the years, and listening to these songs compared to some of their newer stuff is depression inducing. Listening to these songs take me back to good times, so I can't knock this collection too much. But if you already own these albums, this is simply pointless. You don't need it.

I would only say buy this album if you have nothing from Hed PE. Otherwise just buy the "Broke" album and the "Black Out" album, most of these songs are off those two CD's!

Happy Selecting!

5.0 out of 5 stars B Davis Old No. 7 Brand, July 17, 2006
This review is from: Best of (hed) Planet Earth (Audio CD)
What kind of review is this B Davis? Do you know anything about record labels and the industry? I guess not. Hed Pe wasnt even with this label when it was released. Hed left this label on bad terms and they were suppose to do another album on this label. Why do you think this ablum was released on the same day as their new album? The label wanted to get under their skin. A contract is a concract to record labels. They can care less about the bands. They just make sure that the bands make them money. Did I buy this album, hell no!!! Hed had nothing to do with it. Your right that this album is stupid and looks bad. I'm just saying you should know the facts before you criticize this great band. Peace Out

4.0 out of 5 stars Where did this come from?, July 7, 2006
This review is from: Best of (hed) Planet Earth (Audio CD)
Good question, I have no idea... most "Greatest Hits" come from bands anyone could name... (Hed) doesn't fall in there. The album is "alright" a must have for (Hed) fans, but most of us had these songs from the other albums...nothing was new. In general it helps you not have to change cd's... if you don't know them it is a great way to get a taste without having to buy all the cd's!

I don't get it ... (hed) pe seems to have built their career on not caring what anyone thinks and saying f*** you to the establishment ... and then they release a "Best of" disc?!?! What?

The only reason why I gave it 2 stars is because the tunes are great. The concept of a "Best of" disc kills it, though.

I've been a fan of (hed) pe since their first disc and have seen them a few times in clubs and I just don't get this. One other reviewer said something about this feeling like the record label milking the band ... totally agree. And if thst's the case, why would the band let the label do that?

There seems to be fewer and fewer bands out there that truly do whatever they want without regard to what anyone else thinks and (hed)pe used to be one of them.

**cough** sell out **cough**
