For this edition the pharmacopoeia section has been expanded, there are additional chapters on physiology and health economics, and major changes to the chapters on prevention of heart attacks and the athermatous process. It includes recent research on this group of drugs, notably on primary prevention and there is an extended chapter on the nature of beta receptors, whilst the drug profiles of the newer beta blockers are much enlarged. New sections cover beta blockers and atheroma, beta blockers and left ventricle hypertrophy and beta blockers and endothelial function. It concerns a very important class of drugs, with considerable research still being carried out. and is written by two experts closely associated with Sir John Black, who did the original research.
