5.0 out of 5 stars the benchmark in first-aid wound disinfection, August 31, 2005

my family has a long history in medicine. for ages, we've kept bottles of betadine in the house.

iodine is remarkable in its ability to eradicate bacterium. this solution is painless, tenacious, and extremely effective at providing pro re nats antiseptic activity for initial wound treatment and skin prep for surgery.

i keep it with the bandages at all times to use before a topical anti infective like triple antibiotic ointment. if not having a nasty infection after a wound sounds good to you, douse that injured part in betadine. your body will thank you.

5.0 out of 5 stars 5 Star Skin Infection Fighter, December 15, 2011
This review is from: Betadine Solution, Antiseptic, 8 fl oz (Health and Beauty)
If there is only one product in your home first aid kit--Betadine is it. It is effective across a broad range of skin infections including microbial, staph infections, bacterial, viral, yeast, and fungal and is the only product you need. Whether a small cut, puncture wound or large lacerations this is the very best antiseptic to have on hand and use. Plenty of creams, sprays and ointments out there, but trust me this is the best. Forget Neosporin and other triple action ointments because Betadine heals the ones Neosporin and the others can't. This is just one reason you'll find it in most hospitals and you can use the solution in many different ways. The active ingredient is 10% Povodone Iodine and you can get the generic if you can find it. It is painless and non-staining and it works on the nastiest infections. With flu season here it is a great gargle (1 part B to 2 parts water) that should keep the flu germs at bay--many different uses you can Google. With kids and their cuts and scrapes you can apply this with confidence and know you are protecting them against infection. A great product to have at home when someone gets hurt.
