Wikipedia : "The Puppini Sisters are a musical trio specializing in 1940's style vocal 'close harmony' music. Members consist of Italian Marcella Puppini and English Stephanie O'Brien and Kate Mullins".
Every now and then something comes along that causes a massive "why on earth didn't I think of that?" reaction. Something original and quirky, that fills a gaping void and that appeals to just about everyone. Dressed with 1940's glamour The Puppini Sisters perform tongue-in-cheek classics in three-part harmony. With the current vogue being for all things '70s and '80s , surely there can't be room for yet more reworking of past favourites? There is, especially when it's as inventive, colourful and downright fun as The Puppini Sisters' debut "Betcha Bottom Dollar". Marcella Puppini, Stephanie O'Brien and Kate Mullins are delivering a dark and camp translation of classics from relatively recent eras - and even further back. Their influences are worn clearly on their immaculately tailored sleeves, from The Andrews and Boswell Sisters to the Busby Berkley numbers so beloved of Hollywood more than half-a-century ago. Close harmonies? Jaunty upbeat arrangements? Tight band? Definitely YES ! The trio traffics in The Andrews Sisters' sound, which it does extremely well, giving it the extra push needed to grow it beyond parody or imitation. That saves this from being groan-inducing and "cutsie", especially given the novelty act-like covers of "Heart of Glass", and "I Will Survive". though we have to admit they too are enjoyable, as are the unlikely takes on Kate Bush's "Wuthering Heights" and The Smiths' "Panic". You see all sixteen tracks on "Betcha Bottom Dollar" are beautifully crafted like a classic mix of jazz and the Andrews Sisters. It doesn't matter if its their interpretation of "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy (from Company B)" or the more modern songs on here like "Panic", "Wuthering Heights" or "Heart Of Glass", they all get the treatment and come up smiling at the other end. These 1940's influenced gals are gonna be massive but don't let that put you off, everyone needs a bit of fun in their lives and these talented ladies will certainly help to inject that. 50th Anniversary Collection The Divine Miss M Born to Sing Tu Vuo Fa l'Americano

I am flabbergasted!! This album is too too great. I stumbled upon The Puppini Sisters by accident this past weekend driving out on Long Island listening to the great WHLI that plays this type of music. With the windows down, you hear some, but not all. While exiting the Expressway, I heard the harmonies, so thought, "Oh, Andrews Sisters." I stopped at the light and realized they were singing Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive". Boing!! I got in touch with the DJ and he pointed me in the right direction. After doing Music Sampler here, it was a must have!
It brings back a bit of the past, but something we definitely need in this day and age. Mixing the old songs with newer songs done in the old fashioned way makes a great way to show off the girls' talents. The harmonies are brilliant. I'm sure the Andrews Sisters are smiling down from where they are. The best thing is "you understand all the words". Compared to a lot of the garbage that comes out these days, there is something to be said for absolute quality. This is it. Wunderbar!!

My first CD purchase from Amazon could not have been better. Another British invasion by 3 sisters that brings back what most songs are missing these days --- harmony.

It is rare that you enjoy EVERY title on an album. The Puppini Sisters chose delightful songs that showcase their impressive talent. I recommend this work highly to anyone who enjoys music from the 40s or music of that style.

ironic, amusing and well-done,

More than just a really tight band doing a great, amusing and campy send up of the Andrews Sisters on modern songs, it's really more of a love note to the style. This album has a great sense of humor and a great sense of musicianship and originality... Ecclectic is the word...standard swing hits peppered with apple pie, boogie woogie versions of Gloria Gaynor, Kate Bush, and Blondie, and one of my personal Italian faves Tu Vuo Fa L'American!! Everything on it is done to the tee...check out the dance moves on the video!

I can't get over these three ladies! They have great voices, blend beautifully, and have clever arrangements. Every cover meets or exceeds the originals. My favorite, though, is the fresh approach to the Gloria Gaynor classic, "I Will Survive".

Loved loved loved LOVED this cd! I happened to find this CD quite by accident. I had never heard of them before, and was just browsing through some new cd's at the local library and happened upon this one. I couldn't tell if, just by quick glance, they were a new group or something from long ago. Lo and behold, I believe it was produced in 2006! Can you believe something so excellent and great to listen to was created in OUR era??? Maybe by chance, this real music will come alive again and we will have the opportunity as consumers to buy some great music with talented singers like the Puppini Sisters!
If you're wondering whether to purchase: if you like to hear upbeat songs to do your chores to; if you need something to make you smile and dance on a gloomy day; if you enjoy harmony done with excellence; and if you want something you can sing along with and won't get tired of...well, I recommend this one! SOOOO fun. I listen to it constantly and haven't got sick of it yet. What I'd like to see is the sheet music come out in a book for us who enjoy playing the piano and singing ourselves! AWESOME CD!!
