The narrative voice in Jake Bible's novella, Bethany and the Zombie Jesus, is so refreshing, I could clearly hear her speaking in my head. From the very beginning, she seems so naive and simple, but there's far more to Bethany than meets the eye. When faced with the task of wrangling evil in the name of all that is holy, Bethany is reluctant to take on the task. After all, the fate of the entire world rests in her hands--talk about pressure. Fortunately, she not only accepts her duty, but gets the job done with just seconds to spare.

An unexpected heroine, Bible's approach to the zombie genre never fails to excite me. With so many overdone and clichéd zombie stories on the market, stories like Bethany and the Zombie Jesus are a refreshing change of pace.

Combined in this collection with a smattering of everything from bizarro to classic psychological horror, you can't go wrong spending $.99 on this eBook.

When it comes to trash fiction, usually there's good trash, ludicrous and sloppy but energetic and fun, and bad trash, dumb dumb dumb. This Jake
Bible collection is closer to mediocre trash. You won't miss anything if you never read it, and if you do read it, you might be a bit entertained for awhile. So while I can’t really say that I recommend it without reservation, if you’re looking for that sweet spot between B-horror films, bizarro fiction, and fundamentalist Christianity, the title tale about a zombie who has possessed a statue of Christ on the cross is at least original in its subject matter, if not as successful in its presentation. I guess the highest praise I can give it is to say, it's not good, but there's also nothing else like it.

I downloaded a sample of this. I loved it, but there's one issue: the formatting. As a writer, it's really difficult to look at. I would imagine it bothers a good deal of readers too. But it's only the formatting that's preventing me from purchasing this. As soon as it's been corrected I'll buy it that day. The characters were intriguing, the story immediately reached out and grabbed me, and I was desperate to know more. Jake Bible's writing is very crisp and while I'm waiting on this particular ebook to be fixed I'll probably check out a couple other ones.

***Just purchased and I'm currently reading this. I changed it to five stars based on the sample I read and will keep it there until I have reason to change it***

Jake Bible has a bizarre, twisted, irreverent and warped imagination...and I love it. This collection of short stories is a mix, some subtle horror while others being more in-your-face, gory and grotesque. The lead novelette, Bethany & the Zombie Jesus, is an irreverent and fascinating romp and one which I thoroughly enjoyed. The story "Blister" is not for the squeamish but is a delightfully twisted tale and one of my favorites from the collection. I also very much enjoyed "All The Freaky Bedbugs Of The World," which is another offbeat and warped tale. You certainly won't be bored with these short stories.

I've read every book by Jake Bible I can get my hands on and I can honestly say that I've loved them all. Bethany and the Zombie Jesus is a collection of short stories and it's no exception. The stories are gory yet thought provoking with a touch of offbeat hilarity that will appeal to anyone with a macabre sense of humor. I'm a big fan of Jake Bible and if you've never read his books this one is a good one to start with, and I'm quite sure that once you're done reading it you'll be looking for more. Kudos to Jake Bible, King of Drabble and Author extraordinaire!!!
