1.0 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY!!!
I was very pleased when I received these lights and first put them on the tree, but within the first week all of the blue lights started burning out! That was the reason I went with the LED lights, they are supposed to last for years, not one week! I will have to replace them next year since you can't change the bulbs.

This review is from: Bethlehem Lighting Indoor/Outdoor 50-Lamp 5-Millimeter Wide-Angle LED Christmas Lighting Set, Multi-Color (Kitchen)
I've examined every LED Christmas string available in big retail and small specialty stores in the San Francisco Bay Area, getting in trouble plenty of times for plugging products into random outlets for inspection, and I can say this particular Bethlehem Lighting LED set offers the brightest and most vivid colors available. They've also managed to completely avoid the strobe effect cheap LED strings suffer from. As for durability, I've outlined decks, walkways and such with the clear version and left them operating year-round on a timer for evening illumination; the clear sets are going on two years of service and show no signs of deterioration, despite very heavy rains and scorching hot summers. Also, the clear/white LEDs are crisp and clean so the decorated areas will look upscale and high-tech, with light properties harmonizing with the stars above. Your neighbors (or customers, for businesses) will appreciate the installation of such a refined product.

For tree decorating with the multicolored LEDs, on a 7-foot tree I like to use two strands (connected end-to-end) spiraling up the tree. I then add one set of the standard (incandescent) clear mini-lights, 100 bulbs is great, which must be the "twinkle" version, not constant-on (looks static/dead) and not the electronic flash (looks like a robot) or chase (looks like a billboard) versions. The multicolored LEDs give you the most vivid, pure colors which are truly a pleasure to look at; the standard incandescent mini lights add essential warmth to the tree and give a classic look and feel; the "twinkle" version of the clear traditional mini lights give life and a magical quality to the whole composition.

These multicolor LED strings are also great for outdoor use, but become quite expensive with the configuration I've found best, which is three LED strings overlapping in parallel: two multicolor LED strings matched up where the bases of two of the same color lights are touching, then one clear/white LED string with the clear bulbs in the middle of the space between the colored bulb clusters. I've done quite a bit of experimenting and this gives the best appearance from a distance - bright, multi-angle color bursts with some white shimmer interspersed. Look in the electrical section of your local hardware store for screw-in plastic wire clamps to keep all three strings mounted nicely, and be sure to keep a steady tension on the wire when installing so they don't sag.

One final note - anytime you add a lens or bulb shape to an LED you lose light. This strand, which is just LEDs on wire, will give you the brightest colors possible! The Bethlehem Lighting LED strings are a fantastic product for holiday and year-round use!

4.0 out of 5 stars Use them year-round!, June 26, 2007

I love these lights. They use about .02 watts and they don't get warm at all. I use them outside on my back patio year-round for that "festive" look.

Couple of things of note...

I have the lights on a timer so that they're on at night. But because they use so little electricity and the timer "leaks" a little electricity, the lights are always on very dimly. The instructions on the timer specifically say that you must have more than a 40 watt load, so this is the result. Not really an issue though - I just live with it since the electricity consumed is so small.

The bulbs are NOT replaceable. They are built right into the body of the light fixtures. And yes, they do burn out - not as fast as incandescent, but I usually get one or two per strand after a couple of weeks of operation.

Some of the colors are brighter than others. For some reason, the green and blue colors are extremely bright, whereas the others are uniform. Again, not a big deal for me.

These lights may not be available off-season, but I have found a couple of places that carry them - they probably have to go rummaging around in the deepest darkest reaches of the warehouse in the middle of summer, but they have 'em.

I was looking for lights that would last a long time and not use a lot of electricity. I expected the LED Christmas lights to not be as bright as the traditional bulbs, but these lights are extremely bright. This year the tree looks as better than it ever has. I highly recommend these lights.

It is nice to have lights that don't generate so much heat. They are nice and cool, yet bright shining. Low energy draw means lower electric bills for the Christmas Season.
I can't think of a better way to celebrate the season and yet not impact the environment so much.
The bulbs don't flake off their coloring like conventional bulbs do so no worry about having to relace them because of loss of color.
I hope to switch all of my Christmas lights over to LED in the next couple of years.

We had purchased these lights at Bronner's in Frankenmuth. Once home we realized that we needed more of them. Amazon was the only place we could get them. Your prices were cheaper than Bronner's and we received them within a few days. The colors are unique and the brilliance of the LED lamps is outstanding.

In saw these lights on a truck at a parade, we have to have them for our float next year, and with the lower amount of electricity to run them, we can add more and more and more! They are a great looking set of Christmas lights.

5.0 out of 5 stars Going strong after 3 holiday seasons, January 9, 2012

This review is from: Bethlehem Lighting Indoor/Outdoor 50-Lamp 5-Millimeter Wide-Angle LED Christmas Lighting Set, Multi-Color (Kitchen)
I bought 4 sets of these in 2009, back when LED lighting was just starting to get popular, and I couldn't find the multicolor in our local retail stores. The 4 strands filled our 10' tree just fine (please see my product photo) and we loved that they were bright and cool to the touch. We keep our tree up about a month or so. After the tree goes down, we pack away these lights into our storage and then bring them out again the next year. So far, it has been 3 years of enjoying these lights on our tree and every year they are just as bright, no bulbs out and all colors looking good. Recommended.

We switched to LED lights this year, and it took 6 strands of these to fill up our 7' tree. Initially, I bought a few of these, and a couple boxes of the Phillips brand from Target. I definitely like the Bethlehem Lighting sets more, and those are what we used all over the house. Maybe it's the square shape of the bulbs or maybe it's the brand, but whatever it is, the colors are much brighter and bolder in these. The Philips brand LEDs were returned.

These are the first LED colored lights I have ever owned. Overall the colors are nice and bright. My only problem with them is the space between each light. On a 6-7 foot tree you would need at least 3 strands for pretty good coverage. I had the similar white lights that were closer together so that combined with two stands of the colored LEDs worked pretty well this year on our noble fir Christmas tree.
