On a par with Patricia Scanlan and Cathy Kelly!, September 30, 2007
It's not often one discovers a new Irish writer in the league with Patricia Scanlan and Cathy Kelly. It's also dangerous to make the comparison. However, when I found Colette Caddle in "Irish Girls about Town", I knew immediately she was something special. By then she had published two novels, which I immediately got. After that I have got the rest of them. All available here at Amazon.US - except the latest one, "It's all about Him", which you can get from Amazon.UK.
Colette Caddle is a fairly new Irish bestselling author of not quite chick-lit, but a bit more mature women's literature, to put it that way. She writes warm, human novels in a contemporary setting about ordinary people like you and me. About love, marriage and kids. Work and struggle. Joy and sorrow. In short, about LIFE.
Her writing style is light and easy flowing, and although the outcome of her stories is rather predictable, her books are never boring. On the contrary, they are intelligent as well as highly entertaining page-turners. There may be happy endings, but that does not mean they are easily obtained.
"The Betrayal of Grace Mulcahy" is the story of Grace Mulcahy's shaky marriage and the betrayal by her interior design business partner, Miriam. Although the main characters in the book are very much the good versus the bad guys, this does not make them any less believable. After all, crooks and liars aren't exactly strangers in real life either!!
I have read and enjoyed all Colette Caddle's books. The fact that one does not want a book to end, is the best praise one can give. I recommend all her books warmly and hope more readers will discover and enjoy this new Irish "star"!
