Book Description

Love, the ache in your heart when you meet the one. It can take you to soaring heights; and it can leave you bleeding in the wreckage. Loyalty, the thing which binds a Vampire Lord to his children for eternity . . . unless it rots from within, birthing hatred. Betrayal, it comes in many forms and from many sources…love…loyalty…betrayal. War has come to the North American vampires, and Vampire Lords are reaching across territorial lines to strengthen allies and weaken enemies. The most powerful Lord of them all, Raphael, could change the course of the war and determine who raises the final banner of victory. But at what price? And will his mate, Cyn, be the one to pay it?

For those of you lovers of Reynolds' Vampires in America Series (see list of books below) who, like me, can't get enough of Raphael and Cyn, AND are looking forward to the next installment, LUCAS, this novella prequel is a must read!

Raphael and Cyn are visiting Grand Junction, Colorado when suddenly our favorite vampire lord, Raphael is attacked. Of course, Cyn goes into major protective investigator mode and Raphael and Cyn have words about her involvement, but she will not be thwarted. Then there's a new "right arm" vamp Raphael has picked to take Duncan's place (as if any vamp could do that!). His name's Jared and he's a cutie. But the real new player we're all curious about is Lucas. And wouldn't you know it? Reynolds hit a soft spot with me when she made him a handsome, hunky IRISH vamp, who looks enough like Raphael to be his brother (oh, yeah!). He's been with Raphael since he pulled Lucas off the streets of Dublin way back at the "beginning." I can hear the Irish lilt in his voice now....oh, baby. Well, anyway, there's this FBI woman who's looking for her brother and is coming to see Lucas...get the picture?

The villain in the attack seems to be the Midwest lord, Klemens, who is about to go to war with Lucas. Needless to say, there's some good sleuthing as they search out the human who took the shot at Raphael...and hence, much suspense. But let me not forget to mention the very steamy love scenes between Raphael and Cyn. For a novella it has a lot of punch.

I don't see how you can read Lucas without having this prequel novella. It's a good one, too!

The Vampires in America series thus far:

RAPHAEL - Western Territories/Malibu - 2009
JABRIL - Southwest Territory/Houston - 2009
RAJMUND - Northeast Territory/New York City - 2010
SOPHIA - Canadian Territories/Vancouver - 2011
DUNCAN - Capital Territory/Washington DC - 2011
LUCAS - Plains Territory/South Dakota Badlands - coming soon 2012

5.0 out of 5 stars 4.5 stars for Cyn and Raphael's first novella August 14, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
An attempt on the life of the most powerful vampire in North America has been made. The hunt is on to find the gunman as two Vampire Lords are on the brink of war.

In Cyn and Raphael's first novella, someone has sent a sniper after Raphael and the vampire Lord, along with his head strong mate, are searching for the gunman and the one who sent him. The investigation puts some strain on their relationship and shows it's not always sweet words and hot sex between this power couple. I love this pair and think their flaws only make them stronger characters because it makes them more relatable and "real".

We meet Raphael's new Lieutenant, a position left open after the departure of Duncan, and we get know a little more about Lucas, one of Raphael's children and another vampire Lord. We met Lucas at the end of Duncan's book where it's briefly mentioned what's taking place in his territory. We get a better grasp if what's to come and a little more about the Irish vampire himself. It all has me even more excited for his book.

There's a little bit of everything in this novella: action, romance, relationship turmoil and humor. I think D.B. Reynolds did a wonderful job of setting up new characters while not taking away from Cyn and Raphael. Everything worked together great and the only thing I wish is that it was longer. I can't get enough of this series.

BETRAYED is a short novella that takes place after Duncan ends and leads into the release of the 6th book in the Vampires in America series, LUCAS.

Someone tried to assassinate Raphael and everyone is on alert. Cyn wants to be in on the investigation but she knows Raphael is not telling her the full truth of what's going on, so there are some trust issues going on with them.

We also get to meet the upcoming hero of book 6, the ever charming Lucas. He's one of Raphael's very first children that he sired which makes him very powerful, but he is the total opposite of Raphael. He's charming, funny, light hearted, of course handsome and to top it off, he has a sexy Irish accent! Whew! What more old a girl ask for! I am really looking forward to his book and learning more about him.

We also meet Jared Lincoln, who has taken Duncan's place as Raphael's new lieutenant. He is another of Raphael's children and seems to be loyal and dedicated. I can't wait to learn more about him as well.

I read this novella with only reading the first 2 books in the series. There are certain events that happened in the previous books I had not read that were mentioned in this novella, but it didn't deter me from the story. What it did was make me go out and get the 3 books I haven't read yet so I can start on them ASAP.

Vampires in America has become one of my favorites series and I can't wait to read more.

I give BETRAYED 4.5 out of 5 stars
