More About the Author

Amy Clipston has been writing for as long as she can remember. Her fiction writing "career" began in elementary school when she and a close friend wrote and shared silly stories. She has a degree in communications from Virginia Wesleyan College and is a member of the Authors Guild, American Christian Fiction Writers, and Romance Writers of America. She is the author of the bestselling Kauffman Amish Bakery series with Zondervan, which is part of HarperCollins Christian Publishing. An advocate for organ and blood donation, Amy donated a kidney in 2011 at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Through her donation, her husband received a second kidney transplant. Amy and her husband matched another couple and swapped kidneys with them. Amy's memoir, A Gift of Love, will be available in early 2014. She hopes her story inspires others to become organ and blood donors. Amy lives in North Carolina with her husband, two sons, mother, and four spoiled rotten cats. This book is the first book by Amy Clipston that I have had the pleasure of reading. And I must be honest and tell you that I am not a big racing fan, but I absolutely LOVED Amy's book, Betrayed. So much so that I am anxiously awaiting a second racing series book to be released!

This is kind of a romantic mystery with a bit of humor mixed in. Set in my wonderful home state of North Carolina, Amy tells the story of Lacey, the young daughter of a Nascar team owner, who has loved the driver of one team car from afar for as long as she can remember. But while she's away at college in Maryland, tragedy strikes-her father and stepmother both meet death in a fatal 1 car accident....but was it truly an accident?

Reese has known Lacey since the day she was born. She's like a kid sister to him. So when news of her father's accident reaches him, he's determined to be there for her. But she's not making it easy. In trying to convince Lacey that she can trust him he finds himself seeing her as a gorgeous woman, not just his "squirt" and he's falling her. So what's he to do when she tells him she thinks her parents' accident isn't an accident and someone he's close to may be guilty?

Will Lacey accept his proposal and together they can find the betrayer? Or will she just move on and try to buy his share of her father's company?

Amy has the power to keep you with the story from the first line. She mixes humor, mystery and romance in a way that will never bore you! It was hard to put this book down, especially with each new twist that came about! I recommend Amy's Betrayed to Nascar fans, romance lovers, and mystery seekers because she combines all three in this novel and takes you on a ride you don't want to miss!

Betrayed! That was how Lacey felt, when just eight short months after her father's remarriage, he and her stepmother were killed in a horrible accident. Then at the reading of the will, she was outraged and hurt that her father had left his racing company to her and Reese.

Reese, the most gorgeous and sexy man that Lacey had ever laid eyes on. However, she had known him since they were babies, their dads were best friends, and he had worked his way up to a driver on the team. Now she had to share "her" racing company with him. Oh the problem was not that she did not like Reese, it was that she did like him. Way too much!!

Zipping home for a short visit, from college, after her dad's death, Lacey discovers that something is seriously amiss! Things have been moved around in her house, Carl, Reese's dad and her father's best friend is acting downright weird. Something is not right, and she turns to Reese to help her figure it out.

Working together they will solve this mystery. But will Lacey's heart survive? Will Reese betray her trust?

A well written novel, Amy Clipston has once again shown her great talent. However as a fan of her Christian fiction, I was disappointed that this was not in that same genre. There was mild language and sexual innuendos, that did not add to the story line at all. 257 pages[...]

Format: Hardcover
In Mooresville, North Carolina, Lacey Fowler is distraught when her beloved father Greg and his wonderful second wife Veronica die in a car crash on their way home from Daytona. The family attorney informs Lacey that her father named her and driver Reese Mitchell as co-owners of his Southern Racing. Lacey is outraged as she is ready to leave college to run the company alone and making matters worse she loves Reese who is too busy womanizing to notice she is an adult.

However, as she digs into the company's records, she finds the bottom line does not add up as if someone has extorted money. She knows few people would have access of this sort with the prime person being Reese's dad Carl who is like a dad to her. As she investigates her father's death after seeing photos of the scene, the evidence of embezzlement increasingly point to Carl. With Reese helping her, they begin to unravel the truth even as he falls in love with a woman he always thought of as his younger sister.

Although the plot has been used before, Amy Clipston superbly executes the story line of an amateur sleuth investigating embezzlement and murders that implicate the father of the heroine's beloved. The story line is fast-paced keeping up with the racing car theme as Lacey and Reese fall in love but distrust lingers due to the evidence pointing at Carl. With a couple of nice spins, fans will want to ride with Ms. Clipston as she takes readers around the track.

Lacey Fowler's world is turned upside down when her dad and step-mom are killed in a car crash. But something doesn't sound right about the accident. She also finds some major money being drained from her dad's racing company. She finds out too, her father's will leaves his portion of the company to be split equally between her and Reese Mitchell, a winning driver for racing company. Lacey has always been in love with Reese so when it's suggested that they marry to gain control of the company and find out the truth, she reluctantly agrees. The guilty party is not happy about the marriage or the fact they're looking for answers. Will they figure it out in time? And what will happen to their marriage of convenience?

This was a good NASCAR tale. I enjoyed getting to know the characters in this story. I truly felt engaged as a reader from beginning to end. I could see why Reese and Lacey were reluctant to give their hearts to each other. Especially Lacey because of Reese's reputation of being a ladies-man. But I also felt like some of her thinking and reactions were unrealistic, especially because she had known him all her life. I might also make mention that although this author writes good Amish Christian stories, this tale would not be considered in that category.
