Under her own name, she's a bestseller for Silhouette Romantic Suspense, has written an award-winning vampire romance series and an nine book shape-shifter series. Also listed on the Internet Movie Database (IMDB), she collaborated on Indie horror films In the Woods and Savage with screenwriting and ADR script credits, and even played a small role.

Writing historical romance as Dana Ransom, she's a "Career Achievement for Historical Adventure" and "K.I.S.S." award winner with books published in Romanian, Italian, Russian, Danish, Dutch, Portuguese, French, German, Icelandic and Chinese.

As Rosalyn West, she's a HOLT Medallion winner with nominations for "Best North American Historical Romance" and "Best Historical Book in a Series."

I had the opportunity to read Masked by Moonlight, the first book in this series, back in 2010, and really enjoyed it. It was a series that I knew that I wanted to read more of - but of course, hundreds of other books got in the way. When I was given the opportunity to read this one for review, I jumped on it! I missed out on a lot in the five books that came in between - but this book does read well as a standalone.

I really liked Brigit - she was all tough as nails on the outside, but once you got within the walls that she built up, she was really just lonely and looking for someplace to call home. Giles was sort of the same way. He had given up his family and home for revenge and just saw a lonely life stretching before him. He had sold his soul to Jimmy Legere to exact revenge for his father's death, but since Jimmy died and Max Savoie has taken over the business, his dark side has started to retreat. He has mixed feelings toward Brigit though.

You see, Giles is human and Brigit is "one of them". Giles has always been big on compartmentalizing everything, but he is having a hard time trying to figure out where Bree should fit. Trouble seems to follow her, regardless of her intentions, and before you know it, it has found her in New Orleans. Giles packs her up and takes her down to the backwoods where he is from to try to keep her safe. They let their guard down and actually start to get close, but will the trouble that pursues her be too much for a fledgling romance?

This is a very fast moving book and you barely get a breather between crises. There is a lot of family loyalty, whether related by blood or friendship, where people will put everything they have on the line to save another.

I was worried at the start of this book that I wasn't going to like it as much as the rest of the series. The main character Brigit is just not the lovable type. After all it was her boyfriend who tried to kill Max. Luckily that guy was not all that smart and Max got away with just a few minor injuries. But have faith fellow readers because Nancy Gideon has outdone herself on this one. It takes an excellent writer to take a semi villain, or at least a major annoyance, and turn them into a character you truly care about.
Of course I should mention that Giles is lovable from the start. Loyal to a fault he is the kind of man everyone needs in their corner. He is even to look past all of his coworkers more interesting traits, seeing as they are all shifters.
For those of you really concerened with how Max is doing I will tell you we get a peak or two into that. I'd love to read more about my favorite shifter in upcoming books. Overall this was a fantastic novel. The kind I stayed up far too late on a work night because I just couldn't put it down. Its easy to see why Nancy Gideon has made it into my list of favorite authors!

Nancy Gideon's Betrayed by Shadows was a consuming read, fascinating! I'll admit, I'm not sure why I even picked this one, because normally shape shifters are not my thing. In fact, I'm pretty sure I can safely say that I've never read a shape shifter book before. But I'm telling you, I'm signed up for all of Nancy Gideon's series. Shape shifter sex aside, (and that was phenomenal, by the way), when you're dealing with such lethal creatures, the stakes are always high, and you, as the reader, actively worry about the characters involved.

This book was like The Godfather meets Alien. There is warfare between shape shifter clans across the U.S.-- from Tahoe, to Memphis, to New Orleans, and in between. There are so many characters, with ties from previous books in the series, each uniquely interesting, each with fascinating motivations. And even the locales are fabulous, the backwoods swamps, to the mobster mansion, to the seedy side of New Orleans and a shape shifter bar. It was great to see this myriad of characters interact with each other, whether it be the main characters, or any of the side characters. There are twists I never saw coming laced throughout, and, even though I didn't predict them, they still made complete sense. The hero and heroine were so Sam and Diane (Cheers), always misreading each other, coming together, and splitting apart. Their dilemma was so real I had tears running down my face as I flipped pages, heartbroken for them! The dialogue was great, I mean, I could go on and on about this book, but I'll save you the time and tell you that you just have to read it, even if it doesn't seem to appeal to you.

Best I've read in a while! Can't wait for the next (the first chapter was at the end of this one!)

Once again, Nancy Gideon delivers on her promise of scrumptious heroes, feisty heroines and heart-stopping excitement! Brigit MacCreedy, sexy bad-girl on the run from the menacing Teriot shifter clan, is a bit contemptuous of Giles St. Clair. He's only human. What good would he be in a fight against the powerful enemies trying to kill her? Hiding behind a hardened persona developed by years of protecting her family in any way she can, she puts up a wall to keep him out. After all, her plans to save her family will put her on Gile's hit list, too. There's no sense in getting involved with a man who will want to strangle her if she succeeds, no matter how very, very yummy he is.

Giles has his hands full trying to keep business afloat for his incapacitated shifter boss, Max Savoie, and working to avoid a full-out, preternatural clan war. His powerful employer gave him back his self-respect, and he'll do anything to make sure that Max and family are safe. Having to keep an eye on Brigit, who seems to have a penchant for causing problems, is the last thing he needs. He would be happier if she wasn't around to cause trouble. Trouble that rolled into New Orleans clothed in a jaw-droppingly lush body. If only he can convince his misbehaving libido that she is off-limits.

Although she puts up a front as a wicked jade, Giles learns that Brigit is more than she seems--incredibly more. He has been able to hold out against the luscious outside, but is incapable of resisting the creamy, sweet, goodness in her center. And soon enough, Brigit finds that Giles, although human, is stronger and more resourceful than she could have ever imagined. And it's a damned good thing, because terror comes knocking, and there is a killer around every corner.
