Betrayed,
By Tangerine (IL) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Betrayed (Triple Crown Publications Presents) (Paperback)
Darrell Jenkins known as "The Sandman" is doing big things in Waterloo, Iowa. With the help of his crew GMC getting money in the streets is his way of life. Taking the Midwest by storm Darell is determined to take over every aspect of the streets.
Very proud of what he has accomplished, there is one thing that is missing from his life and that is the love and trust of a good woman. Being hurt in the past by his baby momma; Darrell has trust issues with women, until he sees a beautiful bombshell Sherrice Valdez during a brief encounter. Both feel the sparks flying and there heartbeats going pitter patter. Darrell knew that she was the one, or is she? Things spew out of control in the streets and there begins a World War III. With so much that's going on, who can Darell really trust? Take a ride on the wild side with "The GMC Crew" and find out who is really BETRAYED. Betrayed blew my mind. This book really had me going, especially the ending I was in total shock. There was plenty of drama, suspense, blood shed, deceit that you can imagine. As the saying goes "Keep your friends close and your enemies closer". Tangerine, Reviewer Reader's Paradise Book Club

A new Triple Crown Banger!!!,
By Lady Taurus "Lady Taurus" (Chocolate City) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Betrayed (Triple Crown Publications Presents) (Paperback)
David Givens makes a ground breaking explosive debut with, Betrayed.
He takes you to the streets of Waterloo, Iowa where you meet Darrell "Sandman" Jenkins. A keen businessman with the power and mobility of a panther. He's the head of the mighty and powerful GMC. Who are looking to takeover the entire Waterloo and surrounding areas. Things seem to be slowly working themselves into his power with the help of his main man Terry Law. Terry Law is a brutal, sadistic, and psycopathic killer who finds solace in inflicting death in the most lethal ways. Though the Sandman is putting in work to takeover, his life isn't clear of unwanted drama with a babymomma like Keke whose trying to get back into his good graces. When she's exhausted all measures, she resorts to the unthinkable to vie for his attention. Then enters Sherrice. A young woman full of dreams and down on her luck. A chance encounter brings both her and Sandman together as they fall head over heels for each other. This novel is full of suspense, explosive action, drama, and secrets that will have you left feeling betrayed. This by far is one of the best books I've read this year thus far...and one of the best to be published by TCP. I must admit, I was sucked in from the first chapter. Kudos to Mr. Givens for his talent. I can't wait to read his next project.

Betrayed At The Least (token),

This review is from: Betrayed (Triple Crown Publications Presents) (Paperback)
Darrell Jenkins aka Sandman is the kinpin of the drug trade in Waterloo, Iowa. there is the drugs, and some disturbance of others want to take it from him, but his heart is lacking a queen to fall in love with, and when he does it seems like falling in love is more on his mind than being the kinppen that he is. At times, this read turned boring and hard for me to keep my interest, there was no peak action or edge of seat cheering. The book took to long to get to the action and when it did I was like "Is this it?" Eventhough, this book has the same common plot of drugs, money, and so called war, I would've enjoyed it much better if the author would've came up with some kind of twist and turns to keep my interest at peak. I would suggest others to try and read it, but don't expect to be too highly entertained.

I was excited to read this book since it is my hometown. After reading it i was upset! I know its fiction but come on that was not believable to imagine in this town i couldn't even mentally go there! The action scenes were to short for me no suspence! He took more creativity describing the shirt some body got on then setting up the action. I was bored and it was to predictable. The book only got good on the last four pages. Thats a shame i wish the whole book could have been like the the last four pages. Needless to say i won't be looking for part two!

Who's Got Your Back?,
By
This review is from: Betrayed (Triple Crown Publications Presents) (Paperback)
David Givens is sure to make a name for himself in the urban fiction arena with his intense, debut novel, Betrayed. The brains, Darrell `Sandman' Jenkins, and the brute, Terry Law, were not playing when they decided it was time to take over the streets of Waterloo, Iowa. With the menacing GMC crew, total control over drugs, money, and politicians would be theirs with a few calculated steps. Or was it that easy?
Sherrice Valdez could not seem to catch a break. After losing her job as a waitress, she decided to strip as a means of survival. When her roommate, LaShay Goodson, introduced her to the club owner, Sherrice quickly learned that stripping meant a whole lot more than taking off your clothing and picking up dollars. On a night out with the crew, Sandman and Sherrice crossed paths. It was almost love at first sight. And when Sandman realized Sherrice was not out for his money, he knew then she would be the perfect woman by his side. But does love come without a price or motive? In this suspenseful tale of love, hate, lust, and revenge, who could possibly come out of the game without being betrayed? Givens penned a novel that is clearly his break-out baby. The pacing was tight, the plot was thick, and his characters were true to form. The mysteriousness of someone lurking in the shadows could have been little deeper and it was not clear, until the end, who the shadow was, which is a great thing. I definitely recommend Betrayed to urban fiction readers. Reviewed by Darnetta Frazier APOOO BookClub

Good Atempt,

This review is from: Betrayed (Triple Crown Publications Presents) (Paperback)
The book was ok it had all the ingredients a story depicting betrayal needs, boy turning on boy, friend against friend your classic baby mama drama, ex-girl hating on the next girl and the ultimate (finding out the one you love is out to get you). I found the action scenes few and far between, WHO WAS THE BAD GUY! For me there was no distinction between right and wrong, no super villian or anti hero, poor Darrell the lead character was straight played and i just couldn't quite grasp the level of hate some of the characters had for one another, THERE WAS NO ONE FOR ME TO ROOT FOR! Poor Darrell the things that happen to him you would think he would betray someone but in the end he doesn't, David Givens has potential it's not a Triple Crown classic but entertaining nonetheless, enjoy!

BETRAYED by Author David Givens takes place in Waterloo, Iowa. The main character Darrell known as the Sandman and his crew GMC takes the Midwest by storm. Darrell has everything he wanted but a woman in his life. Once he meets Sherrice sparks begin to fly. Darrell believes that she is the one for him. This book has it all love, drama, deceit, suspense, baby momma drama and a detective with a chip on his shoulder. The crew has total control over drugs, money, and politicians. Can they keep it all in line? Can they trust on another? Can Darrell trust Sherrice the one he falls in love with? Issues with Darrell and his crew, things start to get out of control quickly, as a drug war turns the streets into a war zone. This book kept my interest. The plot was very good. The characters were wonderful. The story line flowed very good . I did not expect the ending. and I was so glad to have book 2 ready to read. You will definitely love this book. I highly recommend BETRAYED to all readers. This will be a great book club discussion. This book is a page turner.

This was my first book and I enjoyed the whole process. I was trying to craft a story that had a cinematic type feel. I wanted people to read it and feel like they could visually see the characters sitting right there in front of them. I wanted the action to be gritty at the same time tell a bit of a love story. Of course the ending is what gets a lot of people, but I wanted it that way. This one was kind of rough by my standards, but then again I had never had a book published before. Now "Betrayed Again" is coming out and it should show my maturity as a writer. If you loved this one you will love the sequel even more. Show your love and keep supporting your brother. Thank you for everything.

Betrayed by David Givens,
This review is from: Betrayed (Triple Crown Publications Presents) (Paperback)
Betrayed was a very good. I loved the way the paragraphs flowed together. The character of The Sandman was young to be a "DRUG LORD/KING" he was moving to slow on who was setting him up. I figured that out in the middle of the book. I liked his character and was surprised that he was killed off. I look forward to reading the sequel to this book.
