The book of my dreams!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Betsy Ross : Designer of Our Flag (Paperback)
I love the book but the title is wrong. Betsy Ross really wasn't the designer of the flag. She was just asked to sew the flag because of her great talent in sewing. I read this book because I went to the Betsy Ross house and thought she was really cool. When I read this book, I felt like I really knew her. She is so interesting having 3 husbands and surviving through the war between the British troops and George Washington's Continental army. I think that I'd like to know about her later life more.

This book was not very helpful in doing my biography report. It spends too much time talking about her life as a 6 year old, and not enough time talking about making the flag. Also, Betsy Ross didn't design the flag -- she sewed the flag. This book was originally written almost 50 years ago and is seriously in need of updating to relate to today's readers.

The author does a good job at portraying what type of a person Betsy Ross was. It is written in a story form which is better because I think children will be more interested in reading it. There isn't much information about her creating the flag until the last chapter however it is enough to give children an idea of what she did for our nation.

This review is from: Betsy Ross: Designer Of Our Flag (Turtleback School & Library Binding Edition) (Childhood of Famous Americans (Pb)) (School & Library Binding)
Have enjoyed reading many of the books in this series aloud to my 5/6 year old. This one was especially fun to read after Ben Franklin, 'cause in the book young Betsy actually goes to visit old Ben the printer.
Even though the books are fictional, for the most part, they develop in the child a sense of familiarity with the character, and an interest in learning more about them the next time they encounter them. Most, like this, are full of (invented) dialogue, making them feel very alive. However, one minor thing got under my skin: in the dialogue the author tried to reproduce old Quaker English, but apparently wasn't familiar with the grammar- she uses only "Thee" and not "Thou" or "Thy". Don't let this deter you from enjoying this fun book, but I recommend going through and correcting it before reading it aloud. (Or letting your older child attempt the corrections herself.)

I think that these books are a great way to get kids interested in the people who helped shape our country to what it is today, our freedom, power and our faith. It is simple, easy reading for about second-third grade beginning level. They are full of fun interesting things about the person. I think the whole set of these books should be in every library especially at elementary schools. I myself have enjoyed them and learned alot I didn't learn when I was in school.

Betsy Ross, Young American,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Betsy Ross : Designer of Our Flag (Paperback)
Bety Ross, disigner of our flag, was about the CHILDHOOD of Betsy Ross, not her whole life, as I anticipated. I thought this book was going to be mostly about when Betsy was a grown up not when she was a child. However Ann Weil did give a lot of interesting details about Betsy's childhood.
