Book Description

Relive the glory of a Pennsylvania canal town through the eyes of those who ministered to the needs of the workers. Betsy Nelson reluctantly returns to her childhood home to care for her failing father, a faithful minister who served the town for years. William Covington, a confirmed bachelor, comes to town to become the new pastor and set aside the luxuries of this birth for service to God. Can Betsy and William find common ground on which to work together for the better of the townspeople?

4.0 out of 5 stars Betsy's Return April 24, 2009
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I enjoyed reading this story. Betsy is a woman who is looking to be needed. She believes that she is an old maid and will never find love. That is until the new pastor William comes to replace her father. I enjoyed reading this story because it showed that no matter how unimportant a person can feel they are important to someone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Delightful! Betsy's Return by Wanda Brunstetter April 23, 2010
Format:Paperback
BETSY'S RETURN by Wanda E. Brunstetter is an delightful Inspirational Romance set in the 1800's on the Lehigh Canal in Walnutport, PA. This the second book in the Brides of Lehigh Canal but can be read as a stand alone. It is a wonderful story of romance, family, the return to one's hometown, and new beginnings. The characters are strong and pull you into the story with them. If you have not read Kelly's Chance(Book one), pick one up and read it. Betsy is actually the preacher's daughter who in book one has issues, but she has grown up in her faith and her life. She believes she will be an old maid, that no one will love her. What a surprise awaits her in this book. This is a keeper. It is fast paced and a page turner. I would highly recommend this book. The author has done a great job, I do enjoy her stories. She also has an Amish series that is great and writes children's books. This book was received for review and details can be found at [...].

Format:Mass Market Paperback|Verified Purchase
Thoroughly enjoyed this book by Wanda L Brunstetter. Quite a change in Betsy from the first book... so you need to read" Kelly's Chance" first.
Stories take place in the late 1800's.

This was a wonderful story! Wanda Brunstetter has always been a favorite of mine with her Amish novels, but she is also superbly talented in that she has a gift to also write non-Amish stories. Her stories are always written with God's love and gentle words and it overflows onto the reader when they open this the book.

Betsy's Return, book 2 in the Brides of Lehigh Canal series, could easily be read as a stand alone novel but I'm a stickler for reading a series in order whenever possible and also recommending they be read in order, so I would suggest just that: read Kelly's Chance and then Betsy's Return, both of which are WONDERFUL!

The characters in Betsy's Return are wonderful and full of humor. Both Betsy and William are struggling with personal issues like forgiveness, heartache and following God's true will for their lives. I laughed many times throughout this story, I prayed for the characters and I could feel the love of God reach to my soul. A wonderful feeling when you read a book!

Well done, Wanda! She created yet another 5 star book worthy of high recommendations! It's the perfect blend of history, humor, love and inspiration and shouldn't be missed!

4.0 out of 5 stars Betsy's Return By Wanda Brunstetter July 7, 2010
Format:Paperback
Betsy's Return (Brides of Lehigh Canal, Book 2)
By Wanda Brunstetter

Strong, independent Betsy Nelson returns to her hometown of Walnutport, Pennsylvania when her father, the town preacher, is forced into retirement following a heart attack. Betsy's world is turned upside down as the church quickly calls for a replacement preacher and she and her ailing father are forced out of the parsonage to make room for the young pastor. A handsome, single young pastor.

A self-proclaimed "old spinster", Betsy has no intension of ever marrying. A good thing, since Reverend William Covington, having been recently left at the alter has sworn off all women. With any possibility of romance out of the question, the two are well suited to improving the spiritual wellbeing of the town. Their growing attraction to one another a trifling distraction...

A quick, gratifying read, Betsy's Return is a sweet small town romance. A gentle reminder that God has a special plan for every person in this world; a plan that will unfold in His timing, not ours. A reminder that the best things in life may yet lie ahead.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful sequel July 28, 2010
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I've read many of Wanda Brunstetter's Amish novels, and I think she is good. When I read this series of books, however, I put her in the "great" category. For some reason, I feel that her writing style in this series is far superior to her Amish fiction. In my mind, she's now in the category with B.J. Hoff, Karen Kingsbury, and Beverly Lewis, to name but three excellent writers. Please read the previous books in this series first. They are excellent, too. This is a wonderful sequel. I hope there will be more!

More About the Author

Wanda Brunstetter is an award-winning romance novelist who has led millions of readers to lose their heart in the Amish life. She is the author of over 60 books with more than 7 million copies sold. Many of her books have landed on the top bestseller lists, including the New York Times, USA Today, Publisher's Weekly, CBA, ECPA, and CBD. Wanda is considered one of the founders of the Amish fiction genre, and her work has been covered by national publications, including Time Magazine and USA Today.

Wanda's fascination with the Amish culture developed when she met her husband, Richard, who grew up in a Mennonite church, and whose family has a Pennsylvania Dutch heritage. Meeting her new Mennonite sister-in-laws caused Wanda to yearn for the simpler life. In their travels, she and her husband have become close friends with many Amish people across America. Wanda's desire to explore their culture increased when she discovered that her great-great grandparents were part of the Anabaptist faith.

All of Wanda's novels are based on personal research intended to accurately portray the Amish way of life. Many of her books are well-read and trusted by the Amish, who credit her for giving readers a deeper understanding of the people and their customs.

Wanda's primary attraction to the Amish is their desire to live a devout Christian life that strives to honor God, work hard, and maintain close family ties. Whenever she visits her Amish friends, Wanda finds herself drawn to their peaceful lifestyle, sincerity, and close family ties, which is in stark contrast to the chaos and busyness that plagues so many modern "Englishers." Time and time again, Wanda loses her heart in the Amish life, and she hopes her readers will, too. For more information, visit: www.WandaBrunstetter.com
