5.0 out of 5 stars A Great CD For You Urban/Jazz Lovers. The Girl Is Bad!
This is her debut CD from her break away solo career of Loose Ends. I pick up her CD back in 97 when I saw the video "Can't Let Go". I knew then that this was a CD that I had to have. Took me awhile to find it in a back alley record store. The entire CD is great, from her slow bass thumpin tracks, to her up tempo dance tracks. Omar (international urban/soul...

3.0 out of 5 stars 2 Many Cooks
Simply put there were too many cooks (producers) stirring Laurnea's pot on this debut. Saadiq and Speech (where's he gone) as well as Omar: its just disjointed. However, there are some nice tracks on here. *Infatuation* is nice in its Prince-like nastiness. *Today* is slow and dreamy. *Have You Ever Been* is aight, but its a bit preachy (thanks 2 Speech) and the beat...

Omar (international urban/soul artist) layed a excellent track with: "Today" and Laurnea spit her sexy soulful voice all over it. Her new CD: "Laurnea II" is a great CD as well. I do suggest that everyone add this one to your collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars SWEET!, November 5, 1999

Correct me if I'm wrong...but in this album the influence of jazz is stronger than R&B....

for example "Happy"...it's an acid jazz song for me....and it's a great simple song...also she posses a great smooth vocals.....she deserves more credit from people who lovs music.....

Go Laurnea!

4.0 out of 5 stars Truly Underappreciated!, November 15, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Betta Listen (Audio CD)
Unfortunately Laurnea and her production crew were slightly ahead of their time. She was a couple of years ahead of the Alternative R&B wave. I don't want to try my hand at revising a small part of music history but, her music along with Dionne Farris, Me'Shelle Ndegeocello & early D'Angelo softened up the Black Music community for the projects now getting all the praise & attention, such as Macy Gray, Angie Stone, Erykah Badu, Jazzy Fatnastees etc. The cut "Infatuation" is an infectious aural potion of Prince, Gladys Knight, Nancy Wilson and other great jazz, funk & R&B influences. It's a shame that she was overlooked by so many with her debut. She's a much stronger singer than Macy Gray, more original than Angie Stone, more down to Earth than Badu. I certainly hope she gets the chance to bless our ears one more time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Betta Listen, January 28, 2002

After listening to Laurnea's CD, I just had to have it. I'd never heard of her until I was able to listen to her Betta Listen Album on the net. It seems that the album was released in August of 1997. All I can say is where was I then. The songs are wonderful, inspiring, soothing and so DEEP! I've been searching the music stores for it and cannot find it, so I had no alternative but to order from Amazon. Thanks

Laurnea shines on the last track *Gone* with its almost live jazzy sound. She blows on this one. Used this is a decent buy for those tracks. Hope she, Dionne Farris and few other *where have they gones* find their way and get their groove back soon.

2.0 out of 5 stars not what i hoped for., October 23, 2007
This review is from: Betta Listen (Audio CD)
this is the "americanized" laurnea'. not too good. her voice is beautiful but i don't feel that its a soulful voice, therefore, shouldn't be on these tracks. the track are too r&b and should be for fantasia or someone like that. the loose ends flavor fits her voice better, or over broken beats (nujazz flavor) or she should work with Agent K (Feed the Cat 2003). he is out of London and that flavor music fits her better. I am kinda sorry i wasted my money on this cd. the cd is full of talent but imagine your football greats in the NBA or NHL...........exactly, her voice does not fit the production/musicians on this CD. Someone before dared to compare her to Erykah Badu. not in the same tree. Erykah is more abstract yet pinpointed with nice basslines in her music. I don't see this here. if your'e simply looking for something a little different this will be your CD. If you are looking to get lost in the music, this is not it.
