Better Chef Rice Cooker Food Steamer

This rice cooker cooks great! The only flaw it has is that there is steam that escapes. This causes the boiling water to overflow and slightly spit. If the top had just a little more suction, it would be perfect. But, you get more than what you paid for with this item!

When the item arrived i was happy, it looked nice and appeared that i would get lots of use from it. But looks can deceive you, i put rice in it added water, then i plugged it in and 10 minutes later i smelled burning rubber and the steamer died. What a peice of junk, i sent it back for a full refund. BEWARE....

First of all, it's huge! I didn't expect it to be so big, so it seems funny to cook small amounts of rice (for two people). The first time I used this rice cooker, the boiling water overflowed. However, the next time it did not. It cooks rice like any other rice cooker, and for the price, I think it works just fine.

This item is fabulous. It steams veggie and seafood to perfection and also rice. It is very versatile and comes in handy in the kitchen.

It cooks the rice and steams the vegetables well. One nice detail is when you take out the rice bowl from the middle, it switches to idle mode, making sure you don't leave your rice cooker on a high temperature on accident.
I was also worried about this rice cooker being too large because it is about a foot by a foot, but it fits under my sink or in my pantry closet perfectly.
Overall, if you are looking for a basic rice cooker that works well for a cheap price, this is the rice cooker for you. It doesn't do anything fancy (it only has two modes: on and off), but it does the job.

I ordered this first back in june and when I first got it, was really excited that I could use my old Farberware steamer insert and lid with it (the new models all have stacking inserts with shallow glass lids that just don't work very well). It worked great for 5 months then suddenly just died. Amazon (amazing customer service!) sent me a new one and the replacement one didn't even live through the first use! Needless to say I have returned it and am now ordering a different brand and keeping my fingers crossed.

I was looking for a cooker that met the following criteria:
1. Should have better capacity than rice cookers that are in the 3 cup to 6 cup range. I was looking into the 10-cup range and nothing less than that.
2. Should be a cooker that had a lid that can be removed and cleaned separately. I've had some bad experiences with cookers having attached lids.
3. Should have received decent reviews from Amazon customers.
4. Should be in the $20 to $30 price range.

I purchased Better Chef rice cooker and steamer as it met the above conditions. But I was disappointed when I opened the box to look at the cooker. The lid did not sit properly on the cooker or in the steamer. The steamer on its part, did not sit into the cooker. The individual parts were out-of-shape and it was in an unusable condition. Better Chef definitely needs to take a look at their quality-inspection process.

I packed it back and returned it. Amazon promptly (as always) refunded me. Now I need to look out for another cooker.
