5.0 out of 5 stars Breathtakingly beautiful anthems
I rarely write cd reviews even though I own over 700 cds, but this cd is well-deserving of a review. I've only, within the past 6-8 months, begun listening to Christian music. It was a bit of a hard transition because I was so caught up in the talent of secular music that it seemed like there wasn't as much talent in the CCM genre. Then I started discovering some indie...

Then I started discovering some indie CCM artists that are very good. So far, I think this is one of my top 3 CCM cds that I own. It is an extraordinary collection of anthemic rock songs, almost reminiscent of some Brit-rock bands. The lead singer's voice reminds me a bit of Bruce Hornsby and Chris Martin (Coldplay) at the same time. Tracks 4 and 6 are my favorites on the album.

If you are a picky rock critic but want to discover a good Christian artist, then this is the cd for you to buy.... NOW!

This is a solid release for a band whom I believe has all the talent and potential in the world. Their lyrics are crystal clear on where they stand, yet approachable and intelligent all at the same time.
Robbie sings like a weird hybrid of Bryan Adams and Derek Webb, with a whispery delivery. The band appears to be extrememly tight, and they surround the vocals with walls of lush and rich sound.
I look forward to watching their careers take off. This is a band to watch!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Honest Beautiful Music, June 19, 2006
This review is from: Better Days (Audio CD)
Technically excellent, lyrically good, passionate and sincere, you can tell that he actually believes what he's singing. The music quality is on par with David Crowder, I was greatly blessed and moved to contemplate the beauty of God reflected in His creation by listening to this album. The cd also comes with 2 music videos on it which are amazing art video style collages that actually convey the same message and emotions as the songs they were made for (Which in my opinion is very rare in music videos). It's worth a listen.

4.0 out of 5 stars Delightfully surprising., September 12, 2005

I heard their song "Better Days" and thought it was pretty decent. I had no idea who they were -- and really still don't. But I got a really good deal on the CD and I have to say, I am delightfully surprised. Their music isn't anything new, but I like it. It's pretty mellow, it has a really good sound, and I like the lyrics.
The only real complaint -- or perhaps reservation is a better word -- is that the songs tend to blur together; there isn't a whole lot of variation. One of the things I look for in any album is a progression of the music. In essence, the songs at the beginning progress into a different mood by the end of the album. There isn't that with this album. I mean, I like all of the songs, but their tone and tempo could probably have a little bit better range to them.

But all in all, I'd say it's worth a listen (I'm listening to it right now : - )

5.0 out of 5 stars Passionate music for passionate souls..., April 12, 2006

I have long enjoyed Robbie Seay's music and I am so glad to see that he and his band are starting to get some national recognition. When he puts out a new album and I pick it up I usually listen to it on a regular basis for 1-2 years afterward. The lyrics are just so honest and pure. It is as if he is singing the exact cry of my heart all the time. His voice is modest, but it is the force and passion behind it and the intelligence of what he is saying that make the music worth listening to and worshipping to God along with. The band is very talented and creative in their riffs and melodies.

I agree with the comparison that their music sounds a bit like a Christian Coldplay- but they are certainly very unique. If you like Dave Crowder, Charlie Hall, or other laid back acoustic rock and are a fan of lyrics that have depth and meaning, you ought to pick this album up. It is worth listening to. Over, and over, and over again. That's what I'm listening to right now. Again.

5.0 out of 5 stars My soundtrack for life, October 3, 2005

I've been a RSB fan for a few years, and I'm so glad their music will reach a wider audience now that they're signed. This album is great. It's worshipful, honest, beautiful, earthy, and rockin'. Robbie's got an incredible voice, and it's about time churches pick up on honest songs like this. The songs are about God, life, history, roots, community, grace, and hope. Musically, it's laid back acoustic rock similar to Travis, with some Texas influence. Ryan, the bass player is one of the most creative and talented players you'll ever hear. Do yourself a favor and get this CD. Then take a long drive and immerse yourself in the music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Will bring you to your knees, August 15, 2009

I came across "Better Days" the song on a WOW CD I bought while in Houston. The song, the voice, the message had me intrigued---who is Robbie Seay (band)! I arrived back on my base and ordered Better Days [the album]. I fell in love with the voice, the lyrics, the melodies. Some of the tracks are slow, and full of "God's Breathe". My favorites are Better Days (I play it every morning while getting ready for work), Faith of Our Fathers, Eternal God, and my all time favorite "Jesus, Garden of My Rest". I have to say that Jesus, Garden of My Rest literally brought me down to my knees crying and praising our Lord. The songs have touched me like no other song has. Michael W. Smith comes pretty close however.
I am eagerly looking for more RSB albums, and will snatch them up as soon as they hit.

Thank you, Robbie, for helping me fall even deeper in love with Christ.

4.0 out of 5 stars Music that paints a picture (4.5), August 13, 2009
By
N. Pierce (Southern Illinois) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Better Days (Audio CD)
In this review I will try to describe how the music on Better Days affects you and stays with you. However, I'll just say at the outset that my first impression of Better Days was wondering exactly how many times RSB had listened to Coldplay's "Parachutes" while writing this record. It is full of laid back tempos, acoustic guitar, atmospheric delay-ridden electric guitar, and falsetto vocals. Though RSB owes a whole lot to Coldplay, there are some more upbeat tracks that give them a slightly different identity. For example, "Faith of Our Fathers" and "Hallelujah, God is Near" actually rock in their own laid back way.
Now, onto the impressions. After listening to Better Days over and over I've come to the conclusion that the songs take time to sink in, but after they do they almost become a part of who you are. The music and lyrics really get under your skin (in a good way). And though the music and lyrics are great, what I feel after I listen to Better Days is an amazing sense of peace and wonder. It really leaves an impression on me, which is no small thing. There is some music that you enjoy listening to and when walk away from it, you don't take anything with you. Robbie Seay Band create songs that will leave a "soul picture" on your heart long after you're done listening. My favorite songs are "Breathing Air Again" and "Come Ye Sinners" which both open up worlds in my soul. The themes of God's nearness, the beauty of nature, rest, peace and faith permeate Better Days.
There is also the sense that RSB knows that this world can beat the tar out of you and we sometimes get weary. This music is the soundtrack to Isaiah 40:30-31. It really does heal and strengthen you. In closing, I know I've done an imperfect job describing this record. It's like trying to convey the taste of vanilla ice cream to someone who has never tried it. You can only describe it in subjective terms, but when it comes down to it you just have to try it for yourself. I highly recommend Better Days as well as RSB's other record, Give Yourself Away. Very good stuff.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!, September 6, 2008

DJ (Evington, Vatican City State (Holy See)) - See all my reviews

I am a Christian, but I'm not a big fan of Christian music, in fact, this is the first Christian music CD I have willingly listened to in probably the past five years. In general I prefer classic rock and jazzy stuff like Sinatra - a weird combination, I know. Anyway, I read an awesome book (Through Painted Deserts by Donald Miller - I highly recommend it if you're bored with the traditional growing-in-your-faith book) and the author recommended the CD. On a whim I picked it up and I absolutely love it. If you are tired of the same old cliches then I would really recommend this CD. The musicians manage to sing about God and Christ and faith without sounding like a bunch of silly people pretending everything is great because you're a Christian - I know this is a generalization, but that's really what turns me away from other Christian music. Okay, closing statement - buy this CD!
