"Better Days" can't get much better than this.,
By Charlie Trece (Los Angeles) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Better Days (Audio CD)
Gifted saxman Marcin Nowakowski released his second album "Better Days" and if "Smooth Nights" was a promise this time around Marcin's true talent is confirmed. Recorded and produced last year by such a "heavy weight" as Jeff Lorber this work is a brilliant performance where Marcin's technique displays its real dimension. "Wake Up" is the single and will certainly get serious airplay around the sommoth jazz circuit stations. The presence of outstanding musicians like Jeff Lorber who plays keyboards, guitar, synth bass and drum programming, Paul Brown aka "Mr.X", Paul Jackson Jr. and Michael Landau in guitars, Alex Al in bass, Tony Moore and Dave Weckl drums, Lenny Castro percussion, Wojtek Olszak synth, and vocalists Jeff Pescestto and Chelsea Nicole are an added value to this work. Make no mistake there's no fillers in this cd, but some tracks excel more than others, Shanice's "I Love Your Smile" with its catchy melody, great sax and piano solos plus the perfect vocal arragement is a true delight. Jeff Lorber's "Huggy Bear" and the up-tempo "After Hour" are another high notes as well as the romantic "Tonight Is The Night" where Marcin plays superbly a gentle soprano. "Better Days" is a refreshing album which proves that Marcin Nowakowski is well on his way to smooth jazz stardom. Five stars now but many more to come.
